Champion 4942 Richmond, VA | Subject: Audi - thoughts I've never heard anyone say anything bad about their Audi. (caveat : modern day Audis not the 1990 rust boxes) I'm thinking of getting an A3 or A4 - curious if anyone has any words of advice? |

Pro 4040 | Subject: RE: Audi - thoughts I love Audis. One of my colleagues has had a TT for the last 3 or so years and is extremely pleased with it. Apparently appeals to those who like the feel of Volkswagens, but who are not too fond of Volkswagen crapitude. |

The 1.8/2.0T feels more nimble, due to less weight up front, but you can feel the extra power of the 3.2 at lower rpm. The turbo will be better in terms of fuel efficiency. IIRC, the late B4 or early B5 generations had minor issues, but I think they solved them in the current B6 issue. That's my $300,000 ZWD. |

Science Nerd 28760 Redwood City, California | Subject: RE: Audi - thoughts I've had a VW for 5 years. The only thing I have to complain about is that the electrical system sucks. I've had a few recalls on electrical components and have had to replace a lot of fuses. Other than that, I love the car. Very sturdy. My car has kept resale really well, but it's a diesel so that's part of it. |

TRUST A BROTHA ON THIS ONE.If you're buying new, I'd personally look toward Acura. Better car for the money, IMO. I guess it depends which model you're driving. I drove an TSX and it was a blast. The TL would compare more to an A6. Integra's and RSX's make awesome autocross cars. (Both are no longer made, though.) Yep. Good gas mileage, too. Used to drive the Integra. Love Acura. Down side is have to feed the VTec engines Premium gas. |

Master 1662 Flagstaff and Phoenix, AZ | Subject: RE: Audi - thoughts I had a '87 5000S for a long time and loved it. Not a speck of rust, by the way, but it needed too much work in the end. US garages charge through the nose for work on Audis. My dad and sister in Germany both have Audis too (A6 and A4) and love them. I think my dad is on his 4th in a row now. Every other car in Germany is either an Audi or VW. Lots of station wagons. |

Master 2299 New York | Subject: RE: Audi - thoughts No direct experiene, but my mom just got her 2nd straight A6. For a while it was Car & Driver (or some other car rating's institute) Best Overall Car. Very slick rides. Drive & handle beautifully. Only downside is that the A6 (not sure on the others) takes premium. And has a decently large tank. |

Champion 16151 Checkin' out the podium girls | Subject: RE: Audi - thoughts We test drove through the AWD sedan matrix. Ruled out w/o dirving them: Subaru was out for us: I know they have loyalists, but I don't care for them. Toyota/Lexus: Too small for me to fit in. Not enough headroom. What we did drive: Mercedes C-class: Very refined interior. Decent acceleration. Nicely appointed. Volvo 60/80: Soul-less and cold. Very nice, but didn't grab you on any level. Audi 2.0T: The nicest of the bunch IMHO. Fast, agile, nicely appointed and a good value. Infiniti G35X: Very nice, extremely fast, a bit small inside. We bought this as my wife loved it b/c her Maxima was so familiar. Car has been great so far. Our one "breakdown" they came to the house, took the car to the dealer on a flatbed, fixed ot and returned it to the house. No charge. I think price-wise we'd have done best on the Mercedes as it was end of that body style. I'd imagine now that the Audi would be best price-wise. BTW: I own a VW Touareg and like it. A few small mechanicals (faulty gas cap, some computer weirdness w/ the tire pressure monitor), but it's been fantastic. 17mpg mixed for a 5000lb car isn't terrible, but it could be better w/ a different style car. |

Yeah, they're sweeeeeet. They had one in Heathrow airport, I stood there and drolled until my flight was boarding. I also saw the one at Heathrow, a sweet car for sure. We had an 2005 Audi S4 wagon which is absolutely the best car I have ever owned with the slickest transmission known to man. However, do not crash your Audi! My wife had a modest wreck in ours (front end) it didn't look too bad but apparently the timing belt had come off and wrecked the engine. $27k to repair = totaled. When we bought ours it came with all the services included up to 50K miles, we never paid a penny for any repair work wiperblades, bulbs, brakes and also routine oil changes etc. |

About 75% of the time I go to the pool, there's a black R8 in the parking lot. It looks like a serious beast of a car. Want... to... drive... it... Speaking more realistically, I had my eye on the A3 for a while. (Until Volvo came out with the C30.) ETA that I know someone who has a ~2000 A4 and loves it. Extreme Veteran 384 Mountain View, CA | Subject: RE: Audi - thoughts My coworker sold his 2002 TT and bought a Honda Accord... he called it a reverse mid-life crisis. He was tired of paying to get it fixed every other month (repairs are expensive on them). My old boss had a 2006 A4 and loved it though. He had it leased, so the dealer took care of any work it needed. |

The deals on 2008's are really strong right now - Dealers are just trying to move them off the lot. That's what I've heard. Normally I would be loathe to purchase a car in the last year of a body style, but I'm hoping that the deals and incentives make it worth it. I heard yesterday they just came out with a 0.9% financing deal fo the '08 A4s. All I know if that I better be able to lug some good Tri gear and get a bike rack on it, otherwise it is of no use to me. Plus that whole Quattro thing so I don't almost die driving in the hills around here - as I have to get myself to the pool. |

Take a look at this site if you're interested in exactly what other people are negotiating: http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.eeca714 There's a fair bit of dealer cash right now which the factory provides to dealers to facilitate deals.. |
