Overall Rank = 233/256

Age Group Rank = 7/7
Pre-race routine:

Night Before - cleaned my bike, did a little maintenance and got it packed in the car. Packed up my stuff - went to be early. Slept really well until 2 am woke up for two reasons. One, I had a headache, two, K and S were giggling - LOL. I got up, got some ibuprofen, drank a glass of water and told the girls that 5 am was going to be here before they knew it :)

Morning - woke up at 4:30, headache was gone - thank goodness! K and S were getting ready, I got my water, poptarts - double checked that I had everything. Walked in on K and S while they were making signs for the race - ooops! They were supposed to be a surprise. Left a few minutes later than I wanted to, but we still got there in plenty of time. It took exactly an hour.

Got to the transition area - saw Brian (Bripod) right when I got there - racked my bike in the same row and got set up. We chatted, walked down to the water to check out the course chatted some more. It was great to have someone to talk to to help reduce the pre-race jitters.

Pre-race meeting - and we were off!
Event warmup:

My only warm up was walking to the transition area - I really had no desire to spend any more time in the algae water than I had to ;)

Swim
  • 13m 53s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

2006- 00:23:29/02m 09s / 100yards
2007- 00:20:10 | 01m 50s / 100yards
2008- 13:53 | 01m 42s / 100yards

Holy Carp!

I wonder if course length is right? I just checked the results and it had my split at 1:42/100

7/28 - Found out the official distance - why did they change it I wonder? Oh well- still a good improvement in my pace - makes a lot more sense now!

that was a good swim! The only thing that was not good was in the beginning I kept getting run over by the same couple of swimmers - once I got away from them it went great.

I knew I had to be doing fairly well, cuz I passed quite a few people in other color caps

The new goggles made a HUGE difference! Why did I wait so long?

The water was disguisting! It was warm and there was still a LOT of algea - maybe that's why I went that fast - LOL
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 1
  • 02m 1s
Comments:

2006 - 02:17
2007- 01:55
2008 - 2:01

Grabbed a drink of water, got my shoes on, finished the transition- losss a few seconds debating whether or not to put the race belt on or to wait - ended up putting it on

What would you do differently?:

not mess with the race belt and put it on b4 the run
Bike
  • 50m 12s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 14.86 mile/hr
Comments:

2006 - 00:50:23 | 14.80 mile/hr
2007 - 00:50:27 | 14.78 mile/hr
2008- 00:50:12 | 14.86 mile/hr

All things considered, I'm ok with this modest improvement - truthfully I thought I was going faster than that.

Given the fact that I have done zero hill training and actually only have 200 miles on my 'real bike' this year - I am pleased with any improvement.

Spinning class has paid off - I will be happy next season when I can train on my bike instead of relying on spinning classes.

The good thing about this race is there are lots of first timers - the bad thing about the race is there are a lot of first timers. I was slower on the first lap because I got stuck behind a few gals that were not far enough to the right, and I had no room to pass them because we were being lapped by the super fast riders - it was a little frustrating
What would you do differently?:

within my control - nothing, I did everything I could to prepare this year

I'm just happy I completed it!
Transition 2
  • 00m 91s
Comments:

2006 - 01:44
2007 - 02:00
2008 - 01:31

T2 went smoothly made up for lost time in T1
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 38m 41s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 12m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

2006 - 00:39:13 | 12m 37s min/mile
2007 - 00:41:47 | 13m 26s min/mile
2008 - 00:38:41 | 12m 44s min/mile

I was a little disappointed in the run. I had really hoped to run the whole way, but I had to take several walk breaks.

Starting out, had a giant side ache and could hardly breath - never really went away completely.

I'm still pleased because I improved my time.

It was so awesome to come accross the finish line and see K and S and Brian and Brynn cheering me on!!!
What would you do differently?:

More brick training
Post race
Warm down:

walked around a bit - got some bagles and bannanas from the food tent. had a burger at the cookout, hung out with K and S.

After the race, dropped S off at her Grandparents house - the offered to let me use their shower -

I could not believe the amount of algea on my suit and skin - it was GROSS!!! I was green! (had to wash my suit out 3 times to get rid of the smell - yuck!)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

commuting between NE and PA and training limitations as a result

Event comments:

2006 - Total time - 1h 57m 13s
2007 - Total time - 1h 55m 55s
2008 - Total time - 1:46:15

I'm super happy I was able to do this race one last time. I will always have fond memories of it as in 2006 it was my first tri ever.

YEAH!!! You should be super happy with a 9 minute improvement.  Just think how much better it could have been if you had not been commuting hundreds of miles every week.  Pretty stellar to me.

Wow, your swim!!! That was incredible! Even if the distance was off, you were still second in your AG and that's fantastic. I'm so impressed.

Congrats on the improvement across the board. That's a huge accomplishment. Way to finish this race strong, Beth!

Wow awesome job! That was fun cheering you on at the finish- I dunno if you saw it but I got to hold the "I love my friend's mom" sign. Surprised to hear you walked on the run with how good you looked when I saw you as I was coming in- you looked very strong and it shows compared to your previous years' times! Look out, PA, because when Beth finally gets settled in she's going to start whoopin' you guys!

Wish I could have been there to see you. It's awesome that you left this race doing so well, and I wouldn't worry about a little bit of walking on the run. I've been marathon training and still had to walk a bit on Saturday! Can't wait to hear about your adventures in PA.

Congratulations!Great job on the swim, and as you said, good improvement regardless. 2nd in AG? Yeah!!!Excellent bike work--steady is great, especially when you weren't able to cycle much in prep. Thanks for the Spinning(R) props, though. Super job sticking it out on the run despite the stitch and breathing ... that's some tough schmyte!
