My son graduated 1 year ago from Texas Tech, after taking 2 more online courses.  At first they told him diploma was in the mail, then they said it would be mailed the next semester.  His employer was able to get a transcript showing that he graduated.  Although they have sent me bills to pay for college, they can not give me any information as far as grades go.

My wife and I would really like to see a piece of paper.  Is there something I can do, or should I just forget about it?

Thanks for the advice

I guess it would depend on why you need to see the piece of paper - do you not trust your son?

Do you live close enough to go to the administration office. Harder to give someone the run around in person.

Tech might be idiots....but they're OUR idiots. Why did you let your daughter go to OU?

You paid for the diploma. He deserves it. I'd call the Dean's office or someone higher up until you can get someone who will do something about it......

Enough with the phone calls.  Send them a letter.  First letter is very polite.  Second letter demands a diploma.  Third letter...

To be honest, most schools have better things to do than deal with alumni - you've already incurred tuition bills - your use is over for them.  Therefore, you become second-class citizens.

My other suggestion is coordinate your efforts through the alumni office - those are the people who will make you happy b/c they want you to donate $$...

Don't forget there is a tie in there somewhere from back in the 80's when we got "Screwed" and UT was more interested in kissing their sister than winning.

Frankly, it's about time Mac won something.  Like him.  Can't stand the team.

If you are looking for a transcipt and are trying to call to get this I doubt they iwll send you anything even though you paid the bill since you aren't your son.  I would say it is like going to a bank.  My bank said they will let anyone deposit money into my account but they can't take it out or get information.

This is right - but your son can absolutely get one. Have him fill out one of these:

http://www.depts.ttu.edu/registrar/ORDox/Transcript_Request_Form.pd...

Set yourself as the transcript recipient.

to clarify - I read your post indicating you wanted the diploma itself.

as for a transcript, like others have said - have your son simply fill out a transcript request.

Get the piece of paper.

A friend of mine didn't do this.  He had one class to finish up his degree.  He took the class, turned in a final paper and assumed everything was done.  20 years later a prospective employer checked on his degree and his college said he didn't graduate! It is truly a mess and he's having a $%#^ of a time getting it figured out.

Thanks for everyones advice and jokes.  I have sent him the link for the transcript, and like someone posted after he took the last course online, other than word of mouth there is no proof that he graduated.

Thanks again;

Dwayne

This may sound like a stupid question, but does he have unpaid parking tickets or overdue library books (I know that's probably not very likely).  My college would hold your diploma because of those things.

Even though you may have paid the bills, your son is an adult and the school will not discuss his grades/account with you as you are not his legal guardian.  He needs to contact the school and get the diploma himself.  It took my husband 2 years after he finished his last class to get the diploma.  There is a 2 year gap on his transcripts from the time he completed the course to the time that it shows him graduated b/c they wouldn't backdate the diploma.  Make sure your son has done the graduation audits and paid any necessary processing (graduation) fees that may exist.  Also he needs to have an outstanding accounts audit done to make sure he doesn't have any parking tickets, lab fees, library fees, etc. as those will also hold up the diploma.

A transcript saying he graduated is more valuable than a diploma.  If his employer got one that says he graduated, what more is there to worry about?

That depends on the transcript. A diploma doesn't have a GPA on it.
