Cash, tbh it was the most useful gift we got, seems impersonal but always comes in handy.

1.) Silver Oak Cabernet or Opus One. Something nice >$100 which they'd never buy for themselves.

2.) Lenox / Waterford /Wedgwood picture frame: Useable size for the future pictures when they come back. Ours is in the "case" in the living room and it's much nicer than we'd sepnd our own money on.

im surprised you guys are saying cash that seems so impersonal. I guess they can get whatever they want with it so i am guaranteed to indirectly get them what they want....

This may be cheesy but I always give The Better Homes and Gardens cookbook as a wedding gift.  It's a great go to book for everything from roasting a turkey, to making a sauce, or baking chocolate chip cookies.   I always inscribe my wishes for it to get used for years of holiday gatherings, romantic dinners, and one day maybe cookies with the grandkids. etc, etc.  Since it only sets you back about 30$ I usually add a gift card to a kitchen store or place where they are registered.  Several of my friends have commented that it has been one of their most used gifts.

WOW! I have never known anyone to have everything on their gift registery purchased for them prior to the wedding! That's just amazing! They sure are some lucky people!

Why not cash for their honeymoon? And add something personal on the side. Maybe if they have a pet, you offer free pet sitting on their honeymoon, or something along those lines.

im looking to spend in the neighborhood of $300. I definitly like the wine idea. Pet sitting doesn't work because she is a vet so shes got that covered but otherwise it would be great because our dogs love each other.

Cash is really nice.  We used ours during our honeymoon.  Very nice to have some cash after all the wedding craziness.

My favorite gift that I didn't ask for was a crystal bowl from Tiffany's.  I love using it.   Plus, you'll get points with the bride.

One of my co-workers did this for a wedding he was the best man in. You can contact your state Representative or Senator and request a US flag flown at the Capitol on a certain day - like their wedding day - in honor of the couple. And then they will send the flag to you that you can present as a gift - comes with a certificate and everything.

I love this idea.  But to add to it, pick a recipe out and buy all the dry ingredients so they can whip it up.  You could also throw in a gift cert to a local rest. in case the recipe doesn't turn out

Need more information. What are they interested in? How old are they? How much are you looking to spend? (please forgive me if that's a rude question)

You are the best man, so I assume you know them fairly well--the groom, at least, if not both of them. Help us out. There's no one-size-fits-all wedding gift (the possible exception being cash) and knowing a bit more about them would help.

Edit: okay, you answered the budget question upthread.

If you're going with wine, make sure they have a good wine opener. It wouldn't do to break the cork and lose bits of it in a nice bottle like Opus One.

we are all 24. I have known them each for a long time. They are each my bestfriends and vice versa. Shes a vet sand loves animals. He is the type of guy of reads the Robb Report. Loves to brew his own beer and sail. $300ish is good. I dont mind getting avariety of things either.

right now im thinking a case of wine and a wine opener with their names engraved on it. Their married names since it will most likely be one of the first things they get that has their married names on it.

Here is one that I have used and you can spend as much or as little as you want.  And it appears they like wine so they will like this.

Get three bottles of wine.  1 desert wine, 1 bottle of champaign and 1 bottle of port.

On each make certain a note states when to open it.

Desert wine - open on their 1 year anniversary.  Normally desert wines are only good for a few years anyway.  Normally desert wines are fairly inexpensive.

Champaign - open on their 5 year anniversary.  Now you can start to get some good stuff.  You can go all out or go cheap.

Port - open on their 10 year anniversary.  Again, you can go cheap or whole hog.  If you get a good one (say 20 yo) then when they open it, it will be 30 yo.

Anyway, I liked this idea when I read about it because you are saying "here is to your future, may you last at least 10 years".

How about something for him.

I'm going to be totally sexist here, so ignore me if it gets your panties in a bunch

90% of the crap you get for wedding gifts, the guy could care less about. And I'm guessing there are plenty of women who feel the same. At least for me, my wife is eather a really good actor, or was really excited about the wedding gifts. Wow, a kitchen Aide blender. Whoppity Doo.

The best wedding gift I got was a long board (skate board) from my best man. His wife got us something else cheesy because she didn't think the board was appropriate, meaning my wife wouldn't like it. I think some decorative bowl? But the skate board was by far the best wedding gift.

Second best was the lint roller I zapped with the scanner gun when my wife wasn't looking. Finally, something we needed.

Thats what my wife got from the skateboard couple! I think we use it to through in sea shells from all the beaches we visit.

Buy something associated with their hobby ... we registered for camping stuff and our friends love the idea of getting us things we'll use more often than the formal china that comes out of hiding once a year.

If you know their honeymoon destination, arrange a couple's massage or pick up dinner, or order some champagne and chocolate covered strawberries for one evening.
