Overall Rank = 74/94
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 9/11
Pre-race routine:

Didn't sleep well, short night. Guess I was a bit nervous for my first Duathlon ;) Had a small breakfast then headed to the site. Arrived early, was like 4th into the transition zone, I had a wondefull spot.
Event warmup:

Not much, ran about 1 km then stretched a bit before the start.
Run
  • 25m 26s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 05s  min/km
Comments:

I ran as fast as I could, actually faster that I ever ran during my training.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Sadly they didn't count the transition time.
What would you do differently?:

I didn't want to do the transition with my shoes on the bike because I didn't practice it enough. So I just jump into them and run with my biking shoes on. Next time I will have to change that because it's always a pain to run with cycling shoes on.
Bike

  • 29.70 km/hr
Comments:

I had trouble getting to my usual speed, I ran so fast in the first leg that my legs were really tired when I jumped on the bike. I took a gel and tried to relax a bit hoping that my legs would get back soon. After maybe half a km I finally started to go my usual speed. I passed at least 12 persons during the bike portion, which is what I was hoping because I knew the bike part would be where I would be better. Since my transition time is included in my big portion I know I probably did it in 39 min or so which give me an average over 30, I was hoping for 32 but my legs were too tired from the run.
What would you do differently?:

Hard to say, if I run slower then my bike portion will be better, but then my run will be slower ... I guess I will have to train my run portion to be faster then what I did.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Someone took my spot on the rack so it confused me a bit, I had to put my bike further away and come back to grab my shoes. I ran with my shoes off, I really need to practice that si I can remove them on the bike and run without them, too hard to run with cycling shoes on IMO. Other then that I think it was ok as far as transition goes, itès just hard to compare since it was my first time.
What would you do differently?:

Running without my shoes on for sure
Run

Comments:

Once again I ran pretty fast for my abilities. I was surprised to see that my two running portion went so well and that I had trouble a bit on the bike.

Event comments:

I was hoping to finish around 1h25 or so. I did 1h18m53s which is way faster then what I was hoping so I am really happy with this result. I loved the event and I will be back next year for sure. Really well organised and the weather was just awesome.

Good job! the heat was killing when your wave started. The wind on the bike portion didn't help either. I am sorry that i didn't know another BTer (besides Steve8) was there, i would have paid attention...surely you passed me on the run or on the bike.

Congrats on you "forced" Du
