Hey NC,

Anybody know if there is a BT get-together planned pre or post race?

Why don't we shoot for a BT table at the athlete's dinner on Thursday.  I'm willing to show up at 5 at the entrance with a BT shirt and organize a group.  I'm also planning to go on the award cruise on Sunday and then watch football someplace if anyone's interested.

2 things. I'm pretty sure we are going to be at the kickoff dinner.

Second thing is that if you haven't received your booklet yet you can download all 14 MB of it on the event website.

Third ;-) I'll be riding a black Kestrel. So, when you pass me during the ride at least say hello.

The following was posted on the B2B Athlete Forum:

Dear Beach2Battleship entrants -

I wanted to first wish all of you the very best for a successful race and also to say that we at Hammer Nutrition are honored to be the nutritional sponsor of this year's race. In your race goody bags you will be receiving a sample of Recoverite (our recovery drink... will definitely come in handy after the race!) and a sample packet of Endurolytes, our electrolyte replenishment drink.

On the course we are providing the following:

*** Containers of HEED, our sports drink, for both the bike and run course aid stations. Our two new flavors - mild melon and strawberry - have become really, really popular so they're going to comprise most of the HEED that we'll be supplying (we're also sending containers of the mandarin orange flavor).

*** For the bike course we are providing 3500 of the 22-ounce plastic Hammer Nutrition water bottles that the race staff will fill with premixed HEED. Each bottle, when filled to capacity, will provide 120 calories of HEED. These are not the same bottles as the top-of-the-line bottles that we sell on our web site; however, they are high quality bottles and they come with a screw-on top.

*** For the run course we are providing 40,000 HEED cups, which will most likely be fill two-thirds full with HEED (about 6 ounces). I have suggested that they not be filled any fuller so that you don't end up wearing HEED instead of drinking it.

*** 4200 pouches of Hammer Gel (600 each in 7 flavors). Two of the seven flavors have caffeine in them: espresso contains 50 mg per pouch and tropical contains 25 mg per pouch.

*** 96 bottles of Endurolytes. As mentioned earlier, this is our encapsulated electrolyte replenishment product and it, along with the electrolyte profile in HEED, will very much help prevent
electrolyte-related issues such as cramping from occurring. Each bottle contains 120 capsules, which is equal to 11,520 capsules, or enough for each competitor (assuming they use the product) to have somewhere around 10-11 capsules.

*** 576 Hammer Bars Half of these (288 bars) are chocolate chip flavor and the other half (288 bars) are the new cashew coconut chocolate chip flavor.

As you can see, this is an awful lot of product support... it may not be enough to literally feed each and every athlete but it should be quite sufficient.

I would also like to take this opportunity to encourage you, if you haven't already done so, to download a free copy of our fueling handbook entitled "The Endurance Athlete's Guide to Success." You'll find it on the Hammer Nutrition web site at http://www.hammernutrition.com/guide. Lastly, if anyone has any questions about their race fueling, I invite you to email me directly at [email protected].

I hope that your training has gone well and that you're looking forward to what should be an outstanding race.

Sincerely -

Steve Born

I find it interesting that HEED is the product they recommend for events up to two hours.  For longer events they recommend Sustained Energy or Perpetuem.  Yet for a long course race the serve up HEED.

I think if I were racing that I would be happy with their choice.  I'm a big fan of their gels and endurolytes and things with protein don't make my stomach happy on long days, so HEED would probably work well but I'm still amused by the choice.

I too found this an interesting choice, until I started using Perpetuem. Since it is protein based, it does not last long once mixed. I can understand them not wanting athletes getting sick because it had been mixed too long ago and sat in the possible heat too long.

One possible solution would be to provide single serving packets on course and allow you to mix with water. Actually, that's what I plan on doing at special needs on the bike.

Maybe I'm missing something, but does anyone know if there is a shuttle from the Sunspree to T1? I know there is one back from T1 to the swim start but I'm trying to figure out the best way to get to T1 from the Sunspree to put nutrition on the bike in the wee hours of the morning. I thought about bringing an extra bike to ride the presumably 2.5 miles.

I'm staying at the Sunspree as well, but was told T1 was within walking distance of the hotel. I don't consider 2.5 miles walking distance before an ironman. Hopefully the hotel will have a special shuttle running or something.

I just checked into the Sunspree. The guy at the front desk told us that they will be running the hotel shuttle to the swim start beginning at 0500.

#410 Here

I am heading to dinner and hope to see you all there.

Oh yeah, I did a swim today from the beach start area to the Blockade Runner where you make the turn to the marina.  I am not a fast swimmer and made it in 39:00.  I figure at most there was around 1200 meters left.  This tide thing works out pretty good.   There are going to be some really fast splits on Saturday.
