Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:00a.m. grabbed my normal race day breakfast...PB bagel, banana and decaf coffee. Realized when I got half way there I forgot my donkey top...ugggggg! Picked up 2goggs from the hotel and drove to the parking area. From there we had to ride a shuttle bus to the transition area.
Event warmup:

Got to transition, set up(thank you Force for pumping up my tires!!), got on my wetsuit and headed to the swim start. We were running a little late, so I didn't get my pre-race swim in like I always do. No biggie!! Chatted with Terri(joe runner)about the race and decided that we would come into the finish together!! We seem to have the same pace.
Swim
  • 36m 53s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 15s / 100 yards
Comments:

Even though my time was slow, I felt this was one of my better swims. I felt completely confident in the water and my breathing was right on. I think I could have pushed myself a little harder though.
What would you do differently?:

Start pushing myself a little more in the water!!
Transition 1
  • 02m 31s
Comments:

Uggggggggggg...I really need some transition practice!! Wetsuit stuck on heels. Saw Joe runner in transition right away so I knew the game was on!!
What would you do differently?:

More practice
Bike
  • 1h 12m 48s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 20.48 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt great on this ride!!! Set my sites on Joe Runner...caught up with her and rode for a bit together!! Was feeling really strong so I pulled away. I thought if I could get a good lead on her on the bike she might not catch me on the run. (heh!! yeah right)
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 02m 48s
Comments:

No Craig I was not making a sammich!! Jeeeeeze....will someone please tell me why I am so slow!!
What would you do differently?:

Practice transition!!
Run
  • 1h 01m 42s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

Craig loaned me his garmin for the run, but I couldn't get the friggen thing to work. Messed with it the first 3 miles and could not get a signal. It kept beeping at me and the guy next to me said, "look out she is gonna blow". So at that point I just turned it off. Started out ahead of Joe Runner. I thought since I had a good bike lead on her I could stay ahead of her on the run!! NADDA!! All of a sudden half a mile into the run I hear EEEEEAAAAWWWWWW!! I turn around and there she is...Sh*t!! Held her pace for most of the run, but I couldn't get my heart rate down. Told her not to wait for me and to just go ahead!! Kept her in my sites and tried to really push the last mile to catch her but could not do it.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing!
Post race
Warm down:

Another race in da books!! Chatted with the donks and then went to cheer on the rest that were coming in!

Event comments:

This was my first Oly and my goal was to go sub 3!! I did it and that's all that matters to me!! Thanks Terri for pushing me on the run!! Another fun race. Great meeting so many new BTers...that's what it is all about!

Great job Amy Jo!  That battle between you and Terri sounded like a good one.  Must have been cool to see each other in transition.  And then on the bike...and then on the run.  Makes it hard to dog it with that kind of competition.

Keep up the work and work on those transitions

Now that's what I'm talkin' 'bout! Great race, sista! Smokin' bike leg, that DTC action surely helped, no?

Young lady, you have had quite the tri season and it is still not done...LF mary comin' up. It has been a treat to watch your kick-a$$ efforts this year.. You have done the donkey nation quite proud.

Cool, as always, hangin' with the donkeys.

Another great race for you Amy! How could you forget the Donkey top? I sleep in mine so I won't forget it. If you figure out the mystery of transitions, let me know because I need help too.

We could've set up a little lake side bar what with your sammies and my rita's and chips and salsa.  That transition area sucked.  Don't know how anyone had quicker times unless they were up front.  Thanks for being my motivator.  You did great.  EEEAAAWWSOME job.

YOU?? YOU forgot your Donkey top??  How could you?  Oh, the shame!  You must go through a hazing.  Yes, that's it.  A big Donkai hazing!  At Tyranena.  You shall consume mucho beer, and will have to be driven home.  No, wait.  You would like that.  Skip that.

Nice job, Sunshine!  I had to make sure that you and "Terrance" confirmed the "oh, " statement since it sounded so funny.

Hope to see ya soon.

I'm trying to picture this...Generally I bring one tri-shirt to my races, and I'm wearing it in the morning when I leave.  Did you leave the house topless?  Additionally, you had a separate top that you REMEMBERED but forgot the donkey top?  I can't make this work.

I'm picturing this like the dreams I have where I end up at school with no shoes no matter how many times I go home.

GREAT RACE!!! also, BTW.
