My Garmin 405 won't upload routes into the route tracker.  The workouts upload fine, and the device is recognized, but when I tell it to Get Data, it's just stays at 0% and nothing uploads.  This just started a couple of days ago, it used to work fine.  Any solutions?

I had a similar problem with my 301.  A restart of the browser didn't fix it, but a reboot of the computer did.  I think the Garmin Communicator software occasionally gets 'hung' up and needs a kick in the pants via a reboot of the computer.

Hello,

I am having the same problem but multiple reboots have not resolved. Anybody have a solution out there?

Thanks!

Try testing your installation of Communicator at the Garmin Test pages:

http://www8.garmin.com/products/communicator/test/

http://developer.garmin.com/web/communicator-api/apidemo/garminDeviceControlDemo.html

How many workouts do you have stored on the unit? It's important to delete old workouts to free up memory for new ones and to keep the data from being degraded. I regularly delete everything more than 30 days old.

Hi!

Thanks for the ideas. My 405 has 15 workouts on it.

I tried "http://www8.garmin.com/products/communicator/test/" and it said it was working properly.

I'm not sure how to use this one though? "http://developer.garmin.com/web/communicator-api/apidemo/garminDeviceControlDemo.html" What should I look for and what buttons should I push to test it? The first one I did try with the defaults and it did a similar hang up on "0%" so I'm wondering if we may be on to something and what to do about it?

Thanks again for your help! ;-)

There are usually three potential problems sources with this sort of thing:

  1. code
  2. data
  3. connection

Based on what you've seen so far, the code and connection appear to be ok which leaves data as the most likely candidate. Rather than delete 15 workouts, try deleting one workout at time and then doing the upload or the second Garmin test. Also, I'd try uploading the data on your unit to TrainingCenter before deleting anything.

Hi,

Okay thanks.
* I deleted everything but the one workout from yesterday and still no dice.
* I also tried unpairing and re-pairing the 405 to no avail.
* I uploaded the workout into the training center and it pulled the route and heart rate info no problem.
* I also added another workout (the same one a second time) to see if I could upload the heart info again and that's still there too.

It seems to me the only part that isn't working is the route info into bt.com?

Thoughts? ;-(

Based on your experiencing a hang up with this page:

http://developer.garmin.com/web/communicator-api/apidemo/garminDeviceControlDemo.html

it seems like a problem with the installation of Garmin Communicator. That's the piece of software on your computer that allows the training log to get to the data on your 405.  When you upload to Training Center, Communicator isn't used which is why there was no problem with that.

The next step I'd try is to uninstall Communicator and then reinstall it from Garmin.com.

If you want to test it before reinstalling, try this:
Go back to the demo page
Click "Find Devices"
After it finds your 405, change the File Type to 'TCX History Directory'
Click 'Read From Device'
A list of workouts you've done should appear.
Click each one and then click "Read Selected from Device"

Let me know if it works or not.
