Pre-race routine:

Got to race site on Saturday afternoon, checked in and picked up race packet. Hung out with Joe and Denise for a bit, then met the rest of the BT crew for dinner. Stayed overnight with family who lives close by, got up at 5:00am and headed over to race site.
Event warmup:

Set up my transition area, then our team did a short warmup swim before the race started.
Swim
  • 27m 24s
  • 1408 yards
  • 01m 57s / 100 yards
Comments:

Overall the swim went fine, I did not push too hard since this was a recovery swim after my 70.3 last weekend. Navigation was good, and because I was in the last wave I did not have to fight too much for position in the water.
Transition 1
  • 02m 52s
Comments:

I decided to take my time with T1 and let my HR come down a bit, so I walked most of the way to the transition area. Took my wetsuit off, put my sunglasses and helmet on and I was off. In the bike mount area it was a little congested, but I got off okay and got up to speed quickly.
Bike
  • 1h 19m 2s
  • 24.9 miles
  • 18.90 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike went fine, although it took me a good 5-7 miles before my legs felt ready to go. I tried to hold a reasonable pace, knowing that I still had a 10k to run.
Transition 2
  • 02m 16s
Comments:

T2 went well, I got in to the transition area without any difficulty and got my bike racked quickly. Wiped off my feet, put on socks and shoes and I was ready to go.
Run
  • 1h 17m 22s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 12m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

Given that (1) running is not my strong suit and (2) I had just done a 70.3 race the week before, the run went about as well as could be expected. I alternated between walking and running for most of the course.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a bit, got in line for food, then sat under our team's tent and pigged out. Most of the team left right after eating, so I went over and hung out with the BT crowd for a while.

Event comments:

Given that this was a "recovery race" I was pleased with my results. My swim pace was a bit slower this year, but my bike and run paces were higher so my overall time (adjusted for the shortened swim) was lower. I was also pleased that my swim and bike times put me in the middle of the pack, for my category (Clydesdales) and overall.
