In your normal course of training, what kind of supplements do you take in addition to your normal diet?  If you respond, put a post below with the brand and name of your supplement of choice and what you feel are the benefits.  The can be before, during or after your workout.

You can add stuff and vote for multiple items.

in the morning i take a daily vitamin (rainbow light women's one), a b-complex (co-op house brand of schiff), and a gluc/chond/msm (schiff). at lunch i have a smoothie w/ a soy protein powder that also has spirulina in it (co-op house brand).

the daily i have also contains soy protein, dong quai, red clover, and veggie juice complex (alfafa, kamut, barley grass, oat grass, nettle, kale, broccoli, cabbage, parsely - 10 mg total), and some more spirulina (good for immune strength, cardiovascular health, healthy cholesterol, antioxidants, etc.).

Centrum Performance, Glucosamine & Chondroitin, here.

The former for general health; the latter just relying on faith (it seems to work on my knees).

In the morning I take a good multi-vitiman (can't remember the name), Vit. C & E as well as glucosomine w/ chondroitin. After hard workouts I will take endurox, I think this absolutely helps me recover. In the evening after dinner I will take another glucosomine/chondroitin. The glucosimine/chondroitin I feel has really helped w/ achiness in my knees and shoulders. I have also started eating quite healthly with lots of fruits and vegatables.

Centrum Performace (a$$-brand) along with another 500mg Vit C and fish oil or flax seed oil for Omega3's. Also a daily dose of Glucosamine. Usually store brand stuff.

For protein shakes, I like Myoplex from EAS. Bodybuilding.com has great prices. Most flavors are tolerable, but I prefer the Tropical Variety Pack (Piña Colada, Orange, Banana and Mango are the 4 flavors). The PB/Chocolate and Strawberry flavors are good too. Usually 2 or 3 of these a week (usually right after a lunchtime run during the work week). I also take creatine daily, but I'm trying to build lots of muscle mass - not the "typical" triathlete physique. Actually, I'm not really the "typical" triathlete physique now either

I use GNC's "Mega Man" multi-vitamin because I know when it's been complete ingested...my pee turns green! YAY! (TMI?)

I use EAS's "Carb Control" shake right after a workout because it has 15g of soy protein and only 100 calories.

I take some box-store brand Glucosimine/ Chondroitin supplement 2 x a day.  It really does help my knees...or else it's a heck of a placebo.

I have a scoop of nitro-tech protein powder in the morning. I can't tell a darn bit of difference over regular whey, but it has some vitamins in it so for now it will suffice. In the evening I take a centrum multivitamin. Does it help, who knows, lol.

I am taking 5g of creatine and optygen as well but am going to stop once my current supply runs out and document my distance and times and how I feel and then try to repeat that same effort again in a week and then 2 weeks and see if my performance has lost any. Seeing as what I am reading is that creatine won't help my endurance at all and mixed comments on the optygen which maybe it is that the 2 times I have used it was also followed by an increase in exercise but I could have sworn I could tell a difference. As far as the creatine, I know that works from when I used to hit the gym but if it doesn't really help me out in what I am doing now then why bother.

Sorry, I added my own but didn't expect it to become an option for everyone else...or I would have added each individually.

The "flax oil, green tea extract, ALA" is mine...I also voted for 75% of the others

I put my dog on Glucosimine/chondroitin at age 9, when he was showing the effects of arthritis. It made a huge improvement within about 3 weeks, and I don't think he fell for any plecebo effect. I only wish I put him on it earlier....

Now that I think of it - why don't I take it??????

Hey - what is ALA?

ALA is Alpha Lipoic Acid. I personally suggest everyone consider adding ALA to their list of regular supps.
It's generally used as a powerful antioxidant in lower doses but can also be used to help improve the shuttling of carbs to your muscles and reduce insulin resistance. It's been shown to lower blood sugar and increase energy levels by promoting the production of energy from fat and sugar in the mitochondria. ALA is a relatively cheap supp. I get mine at VitaminWorld...they have a 40% off or buy-one-get-one-free sale every month.

More detailed description here: http://www.supplementwatch.com/supatoz/supplement.asp?supplementId=...

The "R(+)" variety of ALA is generally considered superior. It costs significantly more but also can be taken in lower doses so it's only a marginal cost increase when you look at it that way.

Not all R-ALA is created equal...some good detail on a brand of R-ALA that I suggest is here: http://www.glucorellr.com/DrMatt.htm

To those who take Condrointin/Glucosamine: Sounds like it's good for the knees but what I have is major tendonitis. Do you all think it would help me too? I am in PT for it now and haven't asked him (yet).

I'd say yes. You need to give it time though. Generally you shouldn't expect to feel results for about a month. It's not a cheap supp but I use VitaminWorld brand and wait for a 2-for-one sale. I use "Joint Soother" - 1500mg Glucosamine Sulfate, 1200mg Chondroitin Sulfate, and 500mg MSM. I get 2 bottles of 312 for about $40...3 per serving so it amounts to about a 7 month supply. Best deal I've ben able to find.

I worked for BodyBuilding.com during college and have taken every one of those (except crack) at one time or another. The site is great for nutritional info by the way. Right now all I take are vitamins(Opti-Man), the occasional Red Bull, Hammer Gel, and sometimes some protein. -DShameless plug: www.bodybuilding.com . Great sight for the latest info and workout routines. Also have a lot and I mean a lot of supplements. Cheap too. Chef Jays Tri-o-plex bars are amazing!

Every day I take 1500mg Glucosamine/MSM & 1200mg Calcium/ D. I use the generic Walgreens brand.
My doctor sayd that if I eat healthy (wich I do, lots of veggies / greens) I do not need vitamines. The vitamine excess is just flushed by the body. When I take vitamine suplements I get nasty pimples in my face (go figure). Calcium is a must she said. I take Glucosamine for my joints (a MRI showed I have thin cartilage on my knees I got a little scared).
