Subject: Long Beach Triathlon

Is anyone planning on doing the Long Beach Tri? It was my first tri and I loved it last year. I really want to do it again this year, and probably will. It is on September 21.

This is my inaugural Triathlon and I am pleased to know others out there have done this Long Beach, Ca. Tri. I have to be honest I am excited and a bit nervous primairly because of the swim, I am not a strong swimmer. I've heard the water is calm and it is an easy swim. Can any of you give me any swim advice in this Tri? Is the swim really easy or is there some level of difficultly? I am looking forward to the challenge but like anything in life you try for the first time there is some uncertainty. The say the swim won't help you win the race but it sure will keep you from finishing the race. Cool

The swim is pretty flat, and mostly close to the beach with plenty of landmarks.  If you get a chance, you should go down and do a training swim in the area (check the website for the course).  The swim course runs roughly along the line of existing buoys.

In general, I'd say just get into a groove & relax, don't panic and don't try to go out too fast.  Especially for your first tri, I wouldn't worry about pushing it, focus more on getting through it and gaining experience.

Swim is super easy, no waves, flat as a lake (a little smelly....), easiest swim I've done in a tri.
