Subject: When to strength train during training

I am wondering when is the best time to strength train during my training.  I'm currently doing two long workouts a week, one speed workout, 3 "easy" days and 2 rest days.  Should I strength train on the easy days?  Speed day?  Any advice?

There's a whole separate section devoted to Strength Training here on BT (in the section where Nutrition and Injury, etc are) - strength training is a VERY loaded topic. You might get better answers in the Strength Training forum.

Your best bet is to scroll down to the "Strength Training" forum here on BT and post your question there.  Not everyone here is enamoured with strength training for triathletes...

Thanks.  Posted there too, but noticed most of the traffic is on this forum.  Actually, the first post on the strength training forum addresses the fact that it is not a "substitute" for posting other places, and that they are hoping to avoid answers like yours - ie: post this question somewhere else.  Anyway, thanks for your help.

the issue is that not everyone believes in strenght as an important part of training for endurance sports such as triathlons. The ST forum usually is visisted by those who enjoy/believe in that and might be able to provide with better suggestions. If you are curious as to learn more about this debate, you can do a search on previous posts and you'll get plenty of feedback for or against ST. Finally, the info that you provided is not enough to be able to give you any good advice. You didn't mention how long have you been training, what are your goals, if you are following a plan, etc.

Anyway, welcome to BT and good luck

It's a hard question to answer without more information; if your only goal is to become a faster triathlete, the short answer is that beyond core strength, occasionally swimming with paddles, riding and running hills you do not need to add additional strength training.

If your goal is overall fitness, then you need to look at how you will be able to fit strength training into your overall routine.  Basically how hard are you going to hit the weight room and how is that going to impact your SBR'ing and vice versa.
