My father has somewhat high blood pressure, and was asking me about lower sodium foods. Can some of you point me to online articles about eating better to lower blood pressure?

American Heart Association website is a good one. You can also troll around www.menieres.org

I eat "LoSo" b/c of Meniere's. It's not easy; I'm supposed to be under 1gm of Sodium per day. RDA is 4gm and most of us eat twice that easily. Foods which are deadly and somewhat stealth:

Cheese
Pickles
Olives
Capers
Canned soup (canned anything not labeled low sodium)
Frozen Dinners (Scared straight: Read the label on Swanson's Turkey Hungry Man dinner)
Packaged rice
Instant anything
Hamburger helper (and the like)
Taco mix or any of those gravy packet things (McCormick's)

Good luck. Low Sodium diet wasn't enough to control the BP and isn't working well now for the Meniere's.

I've found a "low sodium" diet (<2000 milligrams / day) AND exercise work for me.  Prior to this my bp was averaging 150/105.  Without medication, I can maintain an average of 118/77.

I really had to watch the ingredients to maintain <2000 mg sodium.  EVERYTHING has sodium.  If it's been packaged it has sodium.

The American Heart Association Low-Sodium cookbook is pretty tasty, and easy to cook too!
