Pre-race routine:

Got up and made some coffe and a bagel
I also took some tyleno 8 hours
ate some oatmeal
visited the bathroom
Event warmup:

They bussed us to the starting line... No warmup since My bus arrived at the starting line at 6:57 and the race started at 7:00 sharp... During the first mile I took it easy... I had to anyway... too many people to speed
Run
  • 3h 58m 6s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 09m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

There was rain at the start, heavy rain. The starting line was long away from the finish line thus they have to take us in buses. Many people were also driven by relatives and friends and the traffic was awful. I think they should close and keep a way just for buses. Before I left I put lots of bodyglide on my feet because I knew they most likely will get wet and I would develop blisters. I felt the water accumulating on my socks and I also felt my skin peeling.. I got blisters and became painful at mile 20 or so...
What would you do differently?:

Well... folllowing the advise of some people on this site I decided to push it at mile 20.... I was doing fine until that time but when i tried to push the run I felt really bad.. the last 5 miles were a drag.... and I was afraid I was not going to be within my goal. As soon I reach mile 25 I gave it all I had and I cross the line a few seconds short of the 4 hour mark... I think that what I would do different is to keep the same pace I was having until mile 20.. If i had, i probably would had finish in a shorter time...

Post race
Warm down:

walked to the food tent, got my finisher's shirt and medal and found a nice piece of sunny real state and streched . When ig ot to the hotel I filled up the bathtub with cold water, got some ice and submeged myself for about 20 minuts... auch.... it felt sooo much better....

After that I went to cheer the latecommers and then got to go to tour the University of texas and ate some good bbq...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The weather was not very good.... I felt my feet wet and it seems that my shoes weighted a ton..... I think that was a big factor on the run

Event comments:

Great race and I got to meet some cool people. Including Jeff Galoway and Nicole Deboom.. She was very nice and even took a picture with her.. The race was good and I would definitly do it all over again... I only would change the weather....
