Total Time = 1h 13m 52s
Overall Rank = 68/302
Age Group = 20-29
Age Group Rank = 9/30
Pre-race routine:

I arrived nice and early so I could take my time setting up transition-and get a parking place that was less than a half mile away.
Event warmup:

Umm..I was freezing so I didn't get in the water before my start. I did wade in to my knees to check the temperature
Swim
  • 09m 7s
  • 375 meters
  • 02m 26s / 100 meters
Comments:

I was kicked a couple of times and kept getting behind people that would switch to breast stroke. At times it was hard to get around them.
What would you do differently?:

Place myself at the front and on the inside.
Transition 1
  • 04m 53s
Comments:

It is a large transition area. I take to long to get out of my current wetsuit.

Surprisingly, I was the fourth fastest transition in my age group.
What would you do differently?:

Buy a new wetsuit.
Bike
  • 36m 49s
  • 8.25 miles
  • 13.44 mile/hr
Comments:

Seeing as how I am incredibly talented I managed to get gel on my left hand, which in turn got on my shifter making more or less impossible to shift-my hand would just slip. So I stopped(on a hill) and got my gloves out-managing to drop my bike in the process. I am so slick.
What would you do differently?:

Not be clumsy, just take the time to put on my gloves in transition. Put the gel in my mouth-not on my bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

Large transition area
fifth fastest in my age group.
What would you do differently?:

Rack my bike a little more quickly
Run
  • 21m 11s
  • 2.1 miles
  • 10m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

I ran this course(hilly) faster than my practice runs(flat).
What would you do differently?:

Make sure that my timing chip was not so tight on my ankle-I had to stop to loosen it because it was going to take a chunk out of my ankle...well, maybe I am exaggerating a little.
Post race
Warm down:

A little jogging, walking, and stretching

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I messed up my left hip two weeks ago and it is still painful to move my leg. Once I got started I didn't really notice it much until the run.

Nice race!  Stopping on a hill might not be the best thing to do, but these things happen.  Looks like really good times, especially if you were injured going into the race.

Nice race, and a good age-group place. A couple comments:

1) Your swim time is way too slow for your ability. You need to seed yourself better, or practice swimming in a crowded pool so you can learn to deal with people in your way. Or maybe you need to warm up so that you can hit your rhythm right away.

2) The benefit of gloves will never make up for the time they cost you in T1 (except maybe in an IM), so you don't need them. Even if you suffer a gel accident, you can briefly stop and use some part of your clothes to wipe off your hand and shifters. Or if you wait a second the gel will become sticky. Actually, they shouldn't have even been with you. Why were you wasting time putting gloves in your pocket? All you need for the bike is your helmet, shoes, socks and sunglasses if you want, some food (already in your jersey or on your bike), and stuff to fix a flat (already on your bike). I don't see gloves on that list!

3) You should tape your gels to the top tube like I do. Your hands won't need to be anywhere near the handlebars when you get them, and gel will get on the top tube at worst.

Oh the criticism...

I should have warmed up before the swim, but it was really cold and windy(I know, I'm a wimp). The start was strange...the start line was perpendicular to the first leg of the swim-with the dock in the way. The first buoy was about 125 meters to the right. I need to learn how to be pushy so I have a decent starting position. I should have been next to the corner of the dock-thus about 5 meters less to swim and a lot fewer people in my way. I did have problems with some congestion at the beginning and when I came up on the previous waves. (I also should have put in a swim practice or two since the last race). The exit was on a slippery and muddy boat ramp-I couldn't move very fast for that segment and there was a very long run from the swim to the timing mat.

the gel thing...I'm not going to go into how slick I am not.
the gloves had been in with the fix it kit...

I just don't have your mad skills -not yet anyway.Tongue out

Photos up

Next time I will look up for the camera instead of tugging on my wetsuit.  Smile I guess that makes it a candid.
