Hey I just wanted to thank everyone for training with me over the past couple months. I completed Louisville (my first IM 13:24:41) last week and am still on a high from it. It was one of the best and most memorable experiences of my life. For anyone who has signed up for or is contemplating IMLOU I strongly recommend it. I have nothing negative to say about the race and will be more than willing to give info to anyone with questions. Once again thanks to everyone and I am pretty sure my legs are done swelling so we can train together again

The fact that you are still buzzing from your effort is a good sign. Well done. I've always felt it is the mark of a successful race when you cross the line and feel good about the effort- thatit wasn't an ordeal.

It sounds like you did the race; the race didn't do you.

Well done.

Nice work, Mike.   Rockstar status is all you.

That being said, I won't sign up for another NAS event. In the meantime, tho, I'll train your off, work incredibly hard, let's hit island lake and kensington and stony and killit. The Michigan crew, you, Jazz, Yeats, Trix, Mitchell, Rottie, Shortyy, Bagel-girl (you know who you are), Matt, and the countless masses dig the training, we'll be there.

Great job, when you are recovered. I would like to pick your brain on the race, location and the whole process.

Glad you had such a great time at what sounded like a true test of will, both mental and physical. It must've felt like an inferno out there! Had a great time training with you at ILRA and hope to see you out there again soon! Congrats Ironman.

As for the heat ~95 degrees, the tunnel vision was nice because it kept me going forward . The dizzy spells and migrane just made the experienec that much more memorable. All the leg and foot swelling was nice because it kept my shoe laces nice and tight and helped me store water for future hydration needs. In all honesty I wouldn't change a thing about the temp, course and race day in general.

Mattliv,

Recovery is a nice break but I am more than ready to start the 20 wk BT marathon program as a Fall/early winter program. My mind says get to the gym and on the road but my legs only "think" they're ready.

Shortyy,

IMlou is a great race for your first as it was mine as well. The swim is nice (not dirty like some say), the bike is rolling hill after rolling hill for 112miles ( I hit 52mph on one downhill), the run shaded for the most part an a blast (lots of spectators).

Rgr375,

send me a PM with any and all questions, I'll do my best to accomodate.

WAY TO GO! IRONMAN!.

One question, how was the swim start.  We were reading that it is a bit different then the normal mass swim start.  Did you like it?  Did you have a hard time seeing the others in your age group?

To be honest I did like the TT swim start format, but then again I was in probably the first 400-500 in the water (w/in 5 minutes of the cannon). For a first IM I think it is a safe bet because you don't need any added drama on the day if you can avoid it. When I do #2 in a few years it will be without a doubt a mass start race. Just to get the true IM traditional experience. As for seeing people in your AG you really have no clue who is who, but then again do you really ever know who is in your AG during the swim. I did the race to do the distance, I wasn't worried if I was in the top50% of my AG or not. I don't know if you have ever done an IM or not, but IM is so big and almost everyone is pretty fast so if I were you I wouldn't concentrate TOO much on the AG / finishing time thing. (Nevertheless with most triathletes its hard to get away from the competitive edge.)

Congrats! You are an IRONMAN!
I did IMLOU in '12 as my 1st full and loved it...in spite of the heat and humidity.
IM#2 will be at Tremblant next August...volunteered there this year. Hoping for slightly cooler temps.

Way to go!
