Kona slots can easily be perserved by limiting the lottery and doing away with slots available at 70.3 events.

No offense is meant to anyone who is competing for a Kona slot, as I will never be in that situation unless I outlive my competition, but wouldn't it be a good thing if the slots were harder to achieve?

In other words, if Kona is supposed to be the world championship of the IM distance, I would think the harder it is to earn a slot, the better athletes will toe the line in Kona.  And I agree with Bryan...if you take away lottery slots and 70.3 slots, you will truly get the best IM distance athletes in the world at Kona, because they would have to prove their ability at the IM distance in order to qualify.

I agree with the 70.3 slots. Hopely 70.3 world championships will be prized thing to do and people will do it.

I really like the lottery system though but that is also because I know that is my only chance I will ever do IM Kona.

Think MarmaMikey is dead-on here ...not sure that the new company will necessarily tinker with the races themselves as that is lifeblood of their brand - which is the essence of the value of their purchase.

Also think it is good news as the increase in value for the brand just peaks volumes to health of the sport. I was concerned with North American Sports lost the brand to WTC (and faded away) but enheartened by the emergence of Rev-3 right after.

It is good to have competitors within a market place as it keeps each company on their toes and provides variety to draw more people in. The only concern over the years is that WTC bought up most of the storied "independent" races such as Eagleman, Savageman, Timberman, etc. I would like to see Rev-3 - or even some independents - create the same storied experience and to build as history such as these races.
