Comments:

as expected a full contact sport. only got smaked in the face once around second turn buoy. Was forced to take two short hard strokes in the middle of the first lap and pulled something in my shoulder
What would you do differently?:

keep training
Transition 1
  • 09m 48s
Comments:

went well, although I was suprised how long it took. Did change into cycling shorts in changing area. left shoes and helmet on bike. .
What would you do differently?:

shoes were a good decision, helmet should maybe go in bag next time as I can buckle it while I run to bike
Bike
  • 7h 17m 11s
  • 112 miles
  • 15.37 mile/hr
Comments:

wind picked up near the second lap. Never really felt like I got a break except for through Verona. maybe went too hard as not much left for run, see below
What would you do differently?:

train more insane hills
Transition 2
  • 11m 9s
Comments:

felt ok through transition went smooth
Run
  • 7h 17m 56s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 16m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

Ouch! I trotted along for about 3 miles downhill. mile 4 my insides cramped up and didn't stop until about a mile into the second lap. After that I was reduced to walking mostly. I trotted a little in the second lap after my insides calmed down a little. Cried a bit going back up to the capital end of first lap, clutching my stomach, thought about quitting. Spectators were great though, very encouraging, someone said "just keep moving, it'll pass" It kinda did, eh 'pass' :) Was still gaseous the next day, but that helped the gut problem. Then of course the legs started to hurt, not a surprise, but then my right lung hurt when I would run so mostly walked. just kept moving. Finished anyway, not sure how.
What would you do differently?:

train more w/nutrition and eat more while training
Post race
Warm down:

ate a little pizza and lots of water and gatoraid

What limited your ability to perform faster:

run fitness and guts

Event comments:

This is probably the hardest thing I've ever done. Giving birth may have been easier. I may volunteer next year and sign up for 2010. Am recovering much faster than I thought I would, even the blisters. Ended up with only three blisters, the biggest on right little toes that topped out at approx. the same size as the toes they were on, but no underlying dermis damage so they are healing quickly too. It was too hard, but sometimes too hard is good. GF told me that my mom didn't believe I'd finish until about 15min before I actually did finish....HA! It took forever, but I did it. Now I just need to recover, continue to be active and train to improve my fitness from this base!
