What area running races do you do in the off-season to stay motivated and on track with your running throughout the winter? How would you rate the ones you've done and would you do them again?

I need to shake things up a bit this winter and would love to find a really good Turkey Day race and a New Years one - plus anything in between and after.

I run in the Securian Frozen 1/2 marathon every winter. It is typically one of the last weekends in January or first in February. It gives me a good goal to work towards in the middle of winter and during the holiday season. In years past it has hovered between zero and 10 degrees, so you get bragging rights for a few months for even showing up

Thanks for the ideas. I think I will register for Securian! Sparco, that's some list! Maybe I'll see you at a couple races this year.

As for the ultra marathon...that's a bit too hardcore for me!

The Monster Dash is a fun one, many wear costumes. I think there's a 5K and half mary. Also, I would suggest the Lifetime Turkey Day run too-5K. A great way to have an excuse to eat that piece of pumpkin pie. If you feel like freezing, there is always the Jingle Bell run. Again many costumes, some quite unusual.

Not from the area but I have this on the to do list for sometime in the future:

Sounds like a fun little venture through the Minnesotan winter time!

If you like cold weather running, for a pretty penny you could run at the north pole and in Antarctica!
