iddy1965 - 2010-01-28 6:02 PM Thanks for the advice.  I have read great accounts of those who have volunteered at this race and it sounds like the right way to go.  Selfishly, it is assuring to know that if I volunteer I will probably get in.

I did my first triathlon in 1984 at age 19.  I raced a lot in the 80s and early 90s, and when I had kids-- I calmed my training down.  I've stayed in good shape by running -- and biking a couple days a week.  Haven't done a triathlon since 1995.

The Ironman has been on my life's list of to-dos for 25 years.  I turn 45 this summer and will do a few shorter triathlons and a half-Ironman ( Pigman in Iowa(?))   Great to know that I can get into Ironman Wisconsin when I'm 46.  Blessings from my wife -- says, "go for it."

Will try to stay healthy and  focused.  Thanks for the info...

I wanted to do an IM when I turned 40 but the kids were at an age where they were into multiple sports, band, etc.  so my wife wisely suggested that maybe it wasn't the right timing to make such a large commitment.  Now at 50, she told me that I "have been there for the family for the last 25 years, and we can give you one year to focus on yourself and we will support you every step of the way!"  That is very important for me to have that support.  Adrian!!!!!!!!!!!!Smile

Thanks for resurrecting this thread as it has provided some good information for those considering participating in IMWI next year (me included).  I'll be volunteering this year for sure....
