So the season is starting to wind down and get REALLY interesting.  Not just EPL but Barca is NOT having a good year either making La Liga an interesting race.

And just in time for the WC to start heating up.  Anyone interested in doing a BT WC bracket on ESPN for fun?  Happy to set up a group.

Yes, definitely getting interesting. Your boys have a little match coming up this weekend, don't they?

I'd be in for the WC bracket! You'd want to post in your WC thread to drum up some additional interest.

What do you think?  New WC thread or resurrect the old one?

I think it would be interesting to revive the old one, but I couldn't find it. I searched "World Cup" and "soccer" and got nothing. Either way I'm looking forward to it.

You mean this one?  http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=212327&posts=725#M3006263&page=29#M3006263

ETA: if you want to have fun, just go to page 14.  I get emotional now just thinking about it.

Cool, thanks. I just had to modify my search to find it, that's new with this version I guess. That's an impressive thread, you may want to revive it when get closer.

That was a great thread.  I will revive it.  Likely next month to give folks plenty of time to join in.

It should be a VERY interesting WC.  Then again, aren't they all?

Alright y'all.  As much as I hate ManUre, I'm really feeling sorry for Moyes.  I always had respect for him at Everton.  At the beginning of the season I had a feeling it was a potential no win situation for him.  Now it appears he might very well be out after one season.

Thoughts?

On top.  I'm hoping and praying it stays that way.

I can't believe how close this season is.

It's a beautiful thing to see Liverpool ahead at this stage of the season.

Watching the team play this weekend was great, they have a believe and desire that's been lacking in recent years.  I was all for Suarez getting handed his exit notice with his poor behavior over the previous couple of seasons, but man he's worked well for us this year (shows why I'm not top flight soccer management I guess)

I'm hopeful, if not convinced, they'll see it through to the end, Man City are still a huge threat with only 4 points gap and they have 2 games more to play, fortunately one of those is against us on the 13th at Anfield, the other sticky one is obviously Chelsea, but again we're at home for that.

By the time we face Crystal Palace they could be in a relegation battle and they showed this weekend they can grind out a win against a top club.

Will be a nervous few weeks but man it's exciting!!

The will enter the stadium to La Marseillaise, channel their inner Henry and Pierre and try to perform like Les Bleu - well at least they will be dressed like them....

On a completely different note, I honestly thought that this year the average score per game was up.  It just felt like it, especially with all of the really high scoring games.  That is not the case.  According to (http://www.soccerstats.com/latest.asp?league=england_2013) the numbers are running down slightly.

'13-'14 = 2.7

'12-'13 = 2.80

'11-'12 = 2.81

'10-'11 = 2.80

'09-'10 = 2.77

'08-'09 = 2.48

I haven't drilled down to see if there are just a few more "BIG" scores and just a lot of average 1.5per game scores.  Just looking at other leagues for this year only. Based on these numbers, Germany is the most exciting and the US scores more than Brazil.  Who'da thunkit?  LOL!  I know, I know, stats, stats, stats.  Maybe I'll play with these further and see if I can come up with a pretty table for a great discussion.

Spain = 2.88
Italy = 2.77
Germany =  3.2
Brazil = 2.44
USA = 2.62
Mexico = 1.85 (this is second leg that started recently)

Update on this for those that are following and/or who care.

Goals per match have ticked up slightly this season from when I posted this in January.  For this season it is up to 2.75, which is still lower than it has been in the past few years.

For the others:

Spain = 2.78
Italy = 2.66
Germany = 3.18
Brazil = 2.46
Mexico = 2.28
USA = 2.65 (with barely 1 month of play done)

So while there really hasn't been more goals per game scored, there have definitely been some crazy scores this year.  AND this is probably one of the more entertaining finish to the seasons we have seen in a while.  Will it rival Man City's triumphant season on a last minute goal in the last game of the season?  Will it come down to the last weekend?  Will Goal Differential be the deciding factor?  Will it be a 2 way or 3 way race?  Who knows but I'm enjoying the crap out of it and also the fact that ManUre isn't one of the ones battling for the title!

A fan would rather see their team get bounced out of Champions League contention than see Liverpool win the league?  Pretty short sighted.

Yeah, that's pretty stupid. As a fan, I'd desparately want that shot at the Champions League--that's some major hardware!

And if what bcozian wrote earlier in the thread, it has come big time $ implications too which Everton has been on the outside looking in for quite a while.  They could use cash boost.

Its a mind set deep rooted in the rivalry for generations - you'd pass over your own accomplishment to make sure your enemy does not taste victory. Probably the fanatical fringe that think this way but they are out there! Scousers are a scary breed!

Having spent close to a year in total of my life in The Wirral, I can say with confidence and pride that yes, yes we are.   For confirmation, look up "Liverpool Kiss" in the urban dictionary.

LOL!  Moreton to be precise.

We thought we were such little bad boys back then.  That where I fell in love with Liverpool.  Don't remember too many of my mates as Everton fans.  Then again, this was the 70's and 80's.

I'm losing my ever loving mind.  So we need to win out to make it 100% certain that we will win the whole shebang.  That would mean 14 wins in a row.  Never done before.  Dear lord I'm nervous.

Could be your year - a dodgy non- second yellow for a Suarez dive, a potential penalty and then the Skrtel "punch" clearance on the corner....thought the deciding moment was the near miss for Silva at 2-2...down 2-3 I think its over

Better to be lucky than good! Its the Liverpool of old!

Yeah, I was not happy with the way Suarez was playing. He had been so good this calendar year.  And then this game.  Ugh.

Now, about the Skrtel "punch", watch again and Sakho's head pushed his arm up and into the ball.  Sooooo, was it ball to hand or was it hand to ball.  It would have been a harsh penalty but I've seen them given for less in the box.

Couldn't agree more on the Silva miss.  It was as if after that and then the Coutinho goal took a lot of the steam out of City.  They continued to try but just didn't have the same drive as they did before that.

Finally, it is nice to have calls go our way for once.  Whether real or perceived, it seemed we rarely did before.
