For spots trying to position Microsoft as cool, they sure seem awfully lame.

Am I off-base here? Anybody like them?

The first time I saw one, I was sort of confused - it went on FOREVER! Way too long for a commercial. I don't think they're amusing, either. And I hate Jerry Seinfeld - I don't think he's funny.

I don't really get what they are trying to say, actually.  Or the new "I am PC" ads.

they've been yanked.  There will be no more.

I found them amusing actually, but as commercials I was left going, "huh?"

I didn't really get the Gates-Seinfeld ads; I do like the "I am PC" ads, though.

The "I am PC" ads are brilliant, in my opinion.  Finally a rebuttal to the effective Mac Ads.

Cube, I'm no expert but what they're doing is showing the nerdy PC guy, and then transitioning to a bunch of active, hip, trendy, happenin' PC Users doing amazing and interesting things.

I love Seinfeld, but was missing the point entirely on the gates/seinfeld ads.  I assume they were leading to something eventually and we were supposed to be caught up in what they were going to lead to.

I like those too - they're funny. And I'm glad, as the post above says, that there is a rebuttal to the MAC ads. I just don't like MACs and will never have one by choice. They're not "so much better" than PC's, imho.

I didn't get them at first but I now think they are brilliant.

To me, they were saying the common everyday person is the PC (the fisherman, student, small business owner, NBA player).   I think the underlying tone is playing into the notion that apple only caters to the uppity, elite crowd.

Kinda sounds like the undertone to the election.  Hmmm.....

From what I understand, the origianl Seinfeld/Gates creatives were meant to be a play on the concept of "connected."

The idea is that the new windows OS is all about "connections" so Jerry and Bill were out trying to "connect" with average people.

They showed us great mercy when they pulled the ads.  (but then again, we're still talking about it - so it worked)

Actually, that's a fallacy. Research shows people are much less inclined to buy products when they dislike the advertising.

The agency they are using now is known for thinking out of the box.  When they introduced the Burger King Subservient Chicken and King mask, everyone was saying "WTF" but both ended up being brilliant moves.

My play on the Seinfeld/Gates commercials were to be intentionaly confusing and bad using the two just to create a buzz and get the public talking about Microsoft with no intention of doing more than 2 of them and it worked.  There's no such thing as bad press.

IMHO if they would have started off with the I am PC commercials they wouldn't have gotten the media buzz they have received thus far.

Now I'm biased and would NEVER buy any Apple product, but I don't see the mac ad's as being effective. Most of them to me seem like they are saying "buy a mac cause it can do the same thing your PC  does, like run Office and Windows. " I don't see how that makes your product better.

I think Alex Bogusky just took the money and went and bought himself another condo in Vale.

And isn't the new "I am PC" campaign almost an exact redux of the "What's on your Mac?" Apple campaign from a few years back?

Similar ads yes, interesting point.  I need to go back and look at those again.  But then again i seem to be in the minority since i dont think the "i am pc" ad are that great either.
