I mean I don't want to send it in via. warranty.

Can I just take it to a jewler or something and be done with it?

I haven't changed an F6 battery but I have changed an F4 battery.

The batteries are actually pretty easy to change.  The issue is the O-ring seal.  If the seal gets seated improperly or has a hairline crack of some kind it can allow water into the unit and fry it.

Obviously, if a Polar service shop didn't do the repair they won't honor the warranty.

In my case I don't use that particular HRM for swimming so it was a risk worth taking.  If you use it in the pool and can't afford to replace it if things go wrong then I would have it serviced.

If that's not as much of an issue then its a straight battery change like most other digital watches.

I took my HRM (not a Polar but a Timex) to Radio Shack, got the battery and they did it for me right there. Should be quick and easy for them. (My HRM is water-resistant up to 30 meters or whatever, like most of them, and it didn't seem to be a huge issue in changing the battery)

It's easy enough to do yourself.  Just unscrew the back, replace the battery, put it all back together properly and screw the back on.  I've done this and it hasn't affected its waterproofing.

If you ever swim with your Polar I would send it to there service center in NY to have it changed. They also have other service centers around the country that may be closer. I had the battery on my S625x changed by Polar and when I went to swim with it, water leaked in and the thing was ruined. Even though the device was no longer under warranty, they replaced it because they had changed the battery and had compromised the waterproofing. If even Polar can screw up a battery change than anyone can -- the only difference is that your local battery shop will not replace your Polar if later on it leaks.

I went to a local battery store with my f11 and had them change it. It's been in the pool many times since then with no ill effect.
