Age Group Rank = 14/40
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5:30 and had a good breakfast with Kevin before getting the girls up. Drove the 2 hours to get to Lake Anna. Was a nice drive but I wasn't feeling the greatest. NOt to sure if it was nerves or a stomach issue. Got to the marina and parked a good distance so we wouldn't be stuck waiting to leave. Got the packet and proceeded to get transition set up. After unpacking, I noticed that I had forgotten my goggles and silicone swim cap. Thank goodness for Mike and Connie!!! Mike had goggles that I could use and a very nice guy who was across the rack from them let me use his swim cap. Really didn't want to swim without one but it would be better than swelling up like a big balloon from the latex!!
Event warmup:

No real warm-up unless you call squeezing into your wetsuit a warm-up.:)
Swim
  • 20m 30s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 30s / 100 yards
Comments:

5th out of 6 waves start. I had a hard time getting into the flow of thing but came back quickly. Managed to not have to back stroke this time, which is a plus for this race. Got a bit way outside to the first bouy then started to sight better. Had to take a few breaks to swim with the head up, and catch my breath.
What would you do differently?:

I hadn't been in the pool much this summer so I really need to just get back in the water. Didn't loose to much because I only was down 18 sec from last years swim.
Transition 1
  • 02m 21s
Comments:

This is the shortest distance transition so I wasn't able to get the wetsuit almost off before I got to my rack. Took time to put socks on this year. So that could be the 13 sec dif from last year.
What would you do differently?:

Try to do more sockless biking and running.
Bike
  • 40m 36s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 18.37 mile/hr
Comments:

This was a great bike for me. Started off a bit chilly and the legs took a time to get warm but when they did I started to pass alot of people. There was a few guys who I tried to keep up with, so that pushed me a bit harder this year. Took over 1 min off last years bike!

What would you do differently?:

Not to much. Was very happy with this ride.
Transition 2
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

Took a few seconds off here.
What would you do differently?:

Try to get off the bike quicker. Although I'm tooo scared of the flying dismount because I am a big CLUTS!!
Run
  • 29m 25s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

I ran the whole race minus the water stops. There was a lady who I tried to pass almost the whole run and finally passed her about 1/2 mile from the finish. Then she caught me just in front of the finish line:( Was great to have Kevin and Ashley cheering me on and yelling that this was my best run and to push a bit harder.
What would you do differently?:

Work on speed. This is the area I need to improve the most to get the most benefit!!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked to find Kevin and Ashley, then grabbed some of the Brunswick stew. We had to wait for Abby because she had volunteered to call out numbers to the anouncer.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My lack of motivation and training the last part of the summer.

Event comments:

As always I think Set-Up puts on one of the better races in VA. This is a great race for beginners and that was evident by alot of mountain bikes at this race.

Congrats on a great race and beating last years time. Now I guess you can take a day or two off and then back to training for 2009.
