Subject: Ironman France for first ironman??

I was wondering has anyone done the ironman france? I'm worried the course will be very hilly, and a tough one for your first ironman. Has anyone any experience with this race?

While I can't help you with that, I can tell you that I'm about 99% sure I'll be doing IM France next year for my first IM! Any info anybody could give on the race would be great, but regardless I think I'll hitting the ole 'register' button in the next 48 hrs or so! Hope to see you there fglynn!

Me too!

It's certainly not the easiest bike course (over 5000ft of climbing if I remember correctly).  Working on the power to weight ratio will be key I think

It is recognized as one of the tougher courses out there.  There is no such thing as the "best" one to do for your first, they are all challenging to say the least.  Pick one that fits your schedule, budget, and desire to participate.

I chose IMFL because of timing and type of course.  Then I chose IMLP because of the ability to take the family on a vacation, the location and the course suited my strengths.  I'm going back to LP in '09 to sign up for the '10 race, which will be my third IM.

I'm mostly doing it because it fits best in my schedule, but apparently the course is quite beautiful. Plus with the Tour de France starting only 6 days later with a time trial only 10 miles (16KM over there I guess) away, I might just feel the need to extend it into a long vacation and see that!

My friend and I are considering doing IM France as our first.  We are both women and are a little nervous about the lack of females that participate in this specific race.  Does anyone have insight into this and if you did end up doing this race as your first, what was your experience?

I DID France as my first IM. It IS one of the hardest bike course (at least in terms of climbing and technical downhills). If you are a nervous biker, choose elsewhere.

Run is usually hot, 4 laps to the airport and back along the boardwalk, no shade, 100% humidity.

My race log is public so IMF is in there.

It is one of the most beautiful courses and the European IMs take awhile to fill up so it actually wasn't much more expensive (since most US ones required on-site signup which was 2 trips instead of one)

Oh and you get to roam around Nice and Monaco once you're done (less than 1hr away).

Women are definately not as common (maybe 10%), and there were NO porta-pottys on the bike so you don't have a lot of options. Not nearly the same level of volounteers as NA races. The women we spoke to enjoyed IM Canada much more.

Edit: Oh and cutoff is 1 hr quicker, if that's an issue.
