Hi guys! Only a few more days now! I'm planning to leave Harrisburg on Saturday afternoon and head to Philly to get my packet, have some dinner and get some rest!

Was there any talk of a meetup Saturday night somewhere, or maybe Sunday after the race? I'd love to meet some of you guys. I know the FL BT folks since I used to live there, but the PA people are a mystery.

I live in the Philly 'burbs, so won't be downtown on Sat (will register during the day on Fri).  And, given the weather and expectation that my wife & kids will try to make the finish, I doubt I'll be hanging around too long post-race.

On race day, I expect I'll be wearing a "hi-vis" orange long sleeve and a visor from either LP or Timberman (could switch to a headband if it's really cold).  I'm about 6'2" with blond hair, so even in a crowd of 18,000 I tend to stick out a little.

If I don't run into any of you, good luck!

Look- Essentially we've been training for a very long time for this marathon. We're triathletes. If you're anything like me, you've had a pretty busy season. I did my first HIM at the end of August. After that I started to zero in on this marathon. I have one 22 miler, one 18 miler, one 16 miler and multiple 14 milers in prep for this race. My goal isn't to qualify for Boston or anything like that. To me- I will feel on top of the world just to finish and know that I did the big "26.2". Don't feel bad- I was hurting so bad during the last 2 miles of the 22 miler that passing the finish line will be reward enough.I would hardly even call it a run because I was hobbling down the road. Seriously- don't go into this with a time in mind. Just do the best you can and feel wonderful and grateful that you have the ability and opportunity to participate. Not everyone is in your position.

Hey, thanks for the kind words. These are all great things to keep in mind. I AM grateful for being able to do this race, it's a fantastic course, and I love being out there and accomplishing something not everyone does. I guess I was a little hung up on the time because I've already done a marathon before--my first one two years ago, so it was also my "OMG, I'm gonna run 26.2 miles!!!" race. I thought I needed a bigger and better "goal" for this one. Maybe still just doing those 26.2 miles (!!) is goal enough. I can focus on what I can accomplish and still be proud of that. Thanks.

Just got my bib number today (7743 is my new lucky number!) and I'm really looking forward to Sunday!

My number is 7626- I'm in the 4:30 corral. Maybe I'll see you at the start- not sure what I'm wearing yet....

Everyone psyched and ready to go?

I'll be wearing my hot pink underarmour shirt, so I should be very very bright. Optimistically hanging somewhere around the 4 hour folks.

The weather's holding steady: Mix of sun and clouds. Highs in the low 40s and lows in the low 30s. Brrr. PERFECT running weather!

Predicted "snow showers" turned into 2"+ in my area (just west of Philly).  Currently, it looks like it will only be high-20s at the start.  Warming up as we go, but don't expect temps much above freezing for the bulk of the run.

I left work early today and took the train into the city to pick up my race number for the half-marathon.  It was a much different expo than last year.  Last year, I waited for a while in line to get my number; this year, I walked right up to the table.

I'm #20807.  I'll be fairly noticeable, since most people notice my shoes, Vibram FiveFingers.  My finish time hopefully will be under 3 hours.

Good luck everyone!

Mantights....awesome! I'm sure you won't be alone out there.

I was a sucker and spent the $60 on Under Armour tights, but they are my magic pants, as I call them, so let's hope they get me through the race ok.

bachorb - 2008-11-21 1:47 PM

In light of the expected weather I cracked and purchased my first pair of mantights for the race. The ones at my tri shop were $80+, and I decided that at this phase in my life I am not nearly secure enough with my masculinity to spend $80 on tights. So I went someplace else and got the $30 ones. Man I am psyched for this - after I do a full marathon I will be out of excuses to procrastinate the full IM!
