Does anyone else buy presents and dinner for there parents wedding annivesary?  It seems to have started several years ago with my family and not exactly sure why.  Maybe we did something nice for there 20th and never stopped.  Is this a normal thing to do?

I send a card.  On a 5th year (35/40/45/etc), my sisters and I will take them out for a really nice dinner.

This year the four of us kids pooled our resources and sent them away for a couple of nights in Napa. It wasn't a big anniversary numbers-wise (33), but we figured that since the youngest of us just went off to college, it'd be nice to send them for a weekend away--especially since in the 26 years since I was born, the number of times they've gone away for the weekend can probably be counted on one hand.

I have in the past.  I totally blew it this year, though.  It was their 40th, and I wasn't able to pull anything special together for them.  Of course, it was when they were preparing for Gustav, so they really weren't in a position to celebrate anyway.  They were too busy stockpiling water and boarding up their windows.

Thank heavens every day that your parents are still married and (i am hopefully assuming) in good health.

What I would not give to be able to do something special for my parents and hubby's parents.

They deserve it

We've never done anything big for my parents' anniversary. I'm shocked that they're still married after almost 30 years...crap, this year is 30, I think. I need to remember to send them a card, at least!

wow... how lucky... I hope you do something.

I haven't seen my Dad since I was 5yo... 1968 when he died... what I'd give to give him an anniversary present every year... and hence so would my Mom I'm sure.

you're lucky.

One more reason to love COJ - today's my parents anniversary and I completely forgot!! A phone call and a promise to babysit their granddaughters while we go out is what they love. 41 years of happy marraige and they're slowly turning into each other. It's very strange.

You're saying that on THEIR anniversary, the "gift" they received is the option of taking YOUR children so that you and your husband can go out one night?

That just doesn't seem fair.
