I'm sure a lot of you will get a laugh out of this little blurb in my 3D Newsletter...

Our main focus in 2009 will be getting back to that great customer service so many of you have grown accustom too.  We will pledge that any phone call or email sent Monday thru Wednesday will be returned within 24 hrs.

Ha!  hahahaha.  Getting back to.  Good one.

I find it so funny. No matter what part of the state you are from, the majority has a horrible opinion of 3D and there "customer service."

It would take a lot for me to ever dream of doing another one of there races.

I dont understand why everyone on $hits 3D. They put together races. If you had a less than satisfactory experience, have a little empathy. If you were going into a race expecting a life-altering experience, then you were probably aiming too high. Its a sport, its meant to be fun. If you get all worked up about certain things youre gonna miss the big picture. By the way before the "money" argument comes into play, Im a poor college student and I think i get my money's worth.

Empathy is saved for someone that I care about that is going through something awful. Organizing a race is a customer service business yet they lack the customer service component and without customers, they wouldn't have a business. You, obviously, have never tried emailing them or calling them.

I'll do Motor City next year, but I'll probably be skipping most other event's that Kenny is the race director for. Carls Family tri was probably the smoothest run race I have ever been to and the post race grub was fantastic. Kenny did a decent job with timing and scoring, but the rest of the event's success was due to the YMCA directing it.

Personally, I think 3D needs to cut back by a couple event's, improve the quality of the experience and give them more time to answer emails, phone calls and become more customer centric.

I don't think any of the people posting in this thread expected 3D to deliver a "life-altering experience."  They expect to get what they pay for.... You got what you paid for, but I don't think anyone else did.

Either you haven't done any of their events OR you haven't experienced customer service in the format that it should be....I.E., taking care of the customer....The one who is PAYING you...

Wow, lots of people aren't 3D fans!  I thought 3D went off course when they greatly expanded their race schedule a few years ago.  I did the inaugural year of Big Fish and it was um, not well done.

I'll do 3D races, namely Seahorse... but I do like Elite Endeavors quite a bit better.

4 yrs ago at packet pickup for Waterloo (E.E. event) I remember getting a race number for my bike and I asked the volunteer, "why do I need a race number on the bike?"  Prior to Waterloo I had raced exclusively at 3D races (not by choice, but because of location/venues).  The volunteer replied, "Because we do things by the book here unlike other folks!!"  I was like.  Whoa!  Slam!

Not expecting a life altering experience, but if I pay $70 for a race, plus travel, I expect three things

a) To be timed,to have my splits, b) the course to be marked properly and distance correct, which I still dont understand how they are always off, and c) if you ask a question to their company, a response.

Every now and then, something will not be perfect, something will go wrong, etc. However, when this happens to you, or others you go to to the race with, almost every time you race someone has a problem, then its a customer service/company problem.

They seem to be acknowledging it and taking steps to improve it. That makes me happy because I dont have anything against them personally, and like some of the races they put on!

yah, I've had pretty good experiences with them in both email and courses.... granted I've only participated in two of THEIR events in the past two seasons... it seemed decent enough and they weren't "A" races for me anyhow..

.....at the end of the day, I think if you don't like how they hold their events, don't go. That's pretty clear feedback! But to expect different re-action from the same action... well, I think that's the definition of insanity...

That's fair but difficult for those of us in SE Michigan- we're surrounded by races and the majority are run by 3D.  I too thought they were hit and miss this year- totally enjoyed Big Fish and Blue Water but there are others who had obvious issues that seemed to be from a clear lack of either preparation or organization (or both).  It would be easier to avoid their races if there were more options nearby.  I'm excited that Running Fit has jumped into the ring and once they get a little more experience their new race series will be awesome!

I could not agree more about the Running Fit taking off with their race series. Randy takes great care of his volunteers and I think that's what helps him put on such fantastic events. 3D could learn a lot from the way they run races.

I only ran one event by 3D in Clarkston, and thought it was ok.  It was better then my first event by Playmakers in Lansing.  However I can't believe everyone is wrong.

So what are other options in Michigan for race events?

3D runs one solid race...Big Fish.

Other than that, zero. Never. Never.  I told Tom that last time I was in the shop, and Kellie was right on the mark...

Subject: RE: Funny email from 3D Racing...

I have done one 3D race (grand haven HIM 07 which they no longer do) and couldn't believe the unprofessionalism.

1) No t-shirts, ugh someone forgot them. Granted they mailed them later at what had to be a gigantic expense

2) Ran out of awards. They started with females and then older men and by time they got to 30-34 males.... nothing. I asked the girl and she said "oh just do another 3D race and we will have it there" Never asked my name, wrote down what awards were not given out, nothing.

3) While doing those awards, they did the raffle prizes like there motorhome was on fire. I understand wanting to go home and  all but running around throwing shirts and bottles through the air just to get rid of them and not even listening to who's number is actually being drawn, why have a raffle

4) and while this rafffle debacle and the awards debacle is going on, there are still athletes on the course. It sounded like this "and the winner of the female 50-54..oh wait John Smith just finished, Sally Smith"   IMO how unprofessional

I knew I would never see that award but I called a half dozen times or so and always the mailbox was full.

Wow--glad they stopped with the HIM attempt!

I just jumped out to http://eliteendeavors.com. It seems quite a few of their events are in lower Michigan. Granted, it may be more of a drive then heading to Waterford, Orion, or Stony but, if the races are THAT bad... maybe it's worth it. You guys definitely have me looking elsewhere for tuneup races.... don't need that "wondering" about the course...

To be honest, I have never had a problem at the many 3D races I've done.  Well, except for the time I watched a girl cut the bike course, then walk up to collect her 2nd place OA award....after I told Kenny about her cutting the course.  Aside from that, no problems.  I do, however, know from experience that they have HORRIBLE customer service.  On top of the non-replies to email and phone calls, having to listen to kenny SCREAM into the microphone at people to stop doing something he doesn't like just embarrasses me for him.  At one race, I seriously thought he was going to cry.  Like I told jogo....3D is quantity over quality...no question.
