Today I ran a slow mile on the treadmill without shoes or socks.  Does anybody do the same.  It felt really good.

I started out really slow and gradually got faster.

I run outside barefoot. I have tried running on the treadmill barefoot; however, my knee starts to hurt when I run on the treadmill, but that could just be my old treadmill.

I feel like a kid when I run barefoot, since I always ran around with my friends without shoes as a kid. It's very refreshing.

I do 2-3 10K runs a week barefoot on Long Beach  (running on the firm, wet sand down by the waterline).  Had to change to a more midfoot strike to avoid overflexion of the achilles, but it feels great and really works my calves.  Its made a huge difference to my race pace as well.

I do most of my running barefoot outside on pavement or easy trails. I've tried treadmills when its to cold for barefoot , they are just ok. I like running outside with flat shoes better than on a treadmill.

I don't think a treadmill is a very good way to learn to run barefoot if your planning on running barefoot outside later on.

All i have is a really bad beach filled with sticks, glass, around a horrible lake.

What's so bad about running on the treadmill?

I just think treadmills are boring as all get out, if you can only run at night and don't like running in the dark than it would be better than nothing. Its the last resort for me.

Sticks , glass other stuff like that in the dark thats still a shoe run outside for me.

barefoot on the beach yes...on the streets of LA...hell no!

If you havn't been injured yet I would call you lucky.  Isn't that like running your car with no shocks...cool maybe, good for you?...probably not.

But did you say it makes you faster?...hmmm.

But then again I was the kid that always wore shoes (florida streets would have melted them otherwise).

Yeah, I like barefoot running.  I do it about once per week, not more than 5 miles.  On pavement, or when it is cold, I often wear socks.  It tears up the socks, but better them than me.  I prefer grass.  I've been doing it on and off for 20+ years.  No injuries yet (at least, none that could be attributed to barefoot running).

I have been a barefoot runner for several years. I haven't had an injury since. I like to run barefoot on the grass. When I run on pavement I will wear Vibram Five Fingers or plain old water shoes. I won my age group running barefoot in a race. I had a very fast T2 time. I cannot think of any downsides to running barefoot, only benefits. I just got my brother started running barefoot after running with injuries for years. He is now running more than he ever has.

Never go barefoot on the treadmill. One mis-step and the belt can slice your foot real bad, down to the bone!
