First post here!  I'm #2298.  Bet this has never happened to anyone a little more than a week out.  I went swimming today to get an open water swim in, and about 10 strokes into my swim I got bit by a seal!  Luckily I had a wetsuit on, just bruises, and tears in the wetsuit.  I'll test it out tomorrow with a run, but it seems ok so far.  I'm now shopping for a new wetsuit!

I wish I was there to see you running in the wetsuit!

What a weird thing to happen, hope all is well and good luck getting the next wetsuit!

I ran a 5-mile turkey trot a couple years ago and one of the runners wore a wetsuit and flippers.  I caught him about a half-mile from the end.

Colin,

Rest up.  I'm sure a 10-hour flight won't help it.

I've offered to loan CO2 to people flying.  If you use it, replace it, otherwise, just return the unused canisters.  I'll have them with me.

Cheers McFuzz, 10 hours in economy. At 6'4" tall, my legs should be able to fully straighten by Sat evening!

If I may, I would like to take up your offer of loan of CO2 if I am unable to purchase any.

T in Lib Lake, Wise words about all the real training being done. It just dosen't feel right not training.
On the plus side, had my first Saturday lay-in in months. Normally up at first light to get as many miles in while the roads are still quiet.

Off to my local lake tomorrow morning for last swim before pack wet suit away too.

7 days, 9hrs to go

If anybody's spouse, significant other, friend, jockstrapper, etc... is interested.  My wife is in the beginning of training for the Chicago Marathon and needs to do her long run while we are in CDA.  She is planning on running 10 - 12 miles on Saturday morning at an 8:30 per mile clip.  If anybody is interested in joining her shoot me a PM.

Race week is here!  How does everybody feel?  I have the pre-race nerves going.  I will feel much better when I get to CdA on Thursday so I can feel the energy of the event.  That calms me down.

FYI, Don't forget to update Jeepfleeb if you haven't given him your bib # for the watching thread.

Refresh my memory,
When are the get together swims? I know Thurs and Fri but times and places...
Any plans for a partial pre ride? (via Bike)
Any plans for a pre ride via car? I am renting a car and don't mind picking a couple of others up if you want to check it out. Let me know

I am planning on meeting some BT'ers at the moose on Friday morning at 8:30 to swim.  My plan is to swim for around 45min and then going to check in at 10 when they open.  Anyone wanting to joint me is invited.  Look for the red-head in the sleeveless Promotion wetsuit with green trim.

I don't get in until Thursday late afternoon.  I'm willing to meet up for a swim on Friday, don't care what time 7:30 or 8:30 will work for me.  I'll probably take a quick spin on the bike after I check in on Friday.  Let me know what time everybody is meeting and I'll be there.

Surprisingly, I am not really nervous about this race.  Maybe as I get closer I'll become a little more nervous, but so far so good.

I almost didn't roll out of bed this morning to swim, but then I thought next week I won't have to get up to swim! I'll be shopping for IM Finisher stuff Made heading out the door for that workout a bit easier. I am ready to race. Feeling happy and excited at the moment. See all the Friday, 8:30am swimmers at the moose. I will be the tall (5'8") chick in a Blue Seventy Helix wetsuit with a pink EndorFun Sports swim cap (Or the crazy girl trying desperately to shimmy into said wetsuit )

Hey everyone,

I haven't posted on here too many times but I was wondering if you had any advice as far as seeding for the swim.  I'm hoping to come out of the water around 1:15 and I breath exclusively to my right.  I'm not really afraid of al little contact but I don't want to get in peoples way and get ran over either.  I was planning on starting wide right but I'm concerned that I wont be seeing anyone to my right and will have to sight way too much.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Last year for IMKY Rogillio put together a spreadsheet with everybody from BT's information on it for the race.  This helped a lot when trying to coordinate meeting up swimming, etc...   I'll attach a sample of it and if you would like me to include your information shoot me a PM with your info and email address and I'll send you a copy.  I won't post it on BT and I promise I won't resell your information .    Unless I get a really good offer

You should be ok with "wide right".  The water is clear enough to see people swimming near you.  Plan on it being crowed the first 400 yards.  Stay mellow, relax, and don't use a lot of energy trying to swim around people.  After the first little bit things start to sort themselves out and you should be able to find some feet to follow.

If you can, plan to breath left on the way back to the beach or the sun will be in your eyes the whole time.  Other option would be some dark goggles.

That sounds like a good time to get in the water.  I'll be in a black and red Nineteen wetsuit, looking nervous as hell!

I fly in the morning, so I'm already getting packed up!  I'll be in CdA this time tomorrow!!!!!

Race day morning always comes very early and there are a ton of things running thru my brain.  In order not to forget anything I've always made a checklist to follow when packing my bags and getting to the starting line in the morning.  Working off of a list has helped me in the past to keep some of the race morning nerves in check.  The following is my 2009 version of this list, hopefully some part of it will be helpfull to others.

IMCDA 2009 Checklist

Pre-Race (At Site):  Load Bike with 1 bottle Spiz, 1 bottle H2O, Bento Bag, Repair Kit Bag; Pump up tires.  Put glasses in T1 Bag (emergency only).

Bike SN Bag (I do not plan to use my SN bag this year):  1 spare old tube;  1 spare CO2;  extra salt tabs; zip-lock bag with 500 cal Spiz.

Run SN Bag (I do not plan to use my SN bag this year):  old socks; old shirt; salt tabs; H2O bottle; Imodium tablets.

Someone may have a location for you but parking is not a problem.  I've been able to park a few blocks away on race morning without having to get there super early.  I've parked by the ball field both times.  At the end of the day my wife was in the same area as well but I don't know if that is where she parked to watch the start.
