In the market for a trainer due to time and upcoming weather constraints and have been reading the reviews on both.  Looking for real-life reviews.

I've had both... currently use the KK Road.  The Fluid2 I had started leaking oil after about a year.  Cycleops customer service was good about handling it, but I didn't feel like dealing, so opted for the KK.

And... if you google "secret trainer deal" you'll get a link to Bikesport Michigan, which will get you the non-leaking trainer for cheaper than you can get the leaky one.

It's the KK Road Machine.  I stopped by and picked one up a couple of months ago and was able to save the shipping cost.

The leaking problem with the Cycleops has been fixed and is no longer an issue.  We've never had a problem with ours, and I'd buy it again.

I have a Cycleops Fluid 2 and it hasn't leaked yet, knock on wood.  Seems to work well.  Not too noisy, just some tire noise.  Bike mounts quickly with one flick of the lever, and it is very stable.

But I looked at the KK Road online and it appears to be built around the same type of frame and it sounds good.  I would look at it if it was priced competitively and I was in the market.

After a lot of research I just ordered the "Secret Badger"

It is a very good deal, and what you have to pay for shipping is made up for becuase you don't have to pay tax.

Wish I would've seen the post earlier I had an email from ProBikeKit that had a 3 day sale that started last Friday, for the Cyclops 2 for just under $200 including shipping.  Here's the link:  http://www.probikekit.com/display.php?code=T0023

Thereout of stock right now, but might be worth checking into if you don't go with the Badger deal.

I took up the angry badger deal a few weeks ago and I love the KK road machine that came, if only I could get the badger off my bike now!

ummm, no. I bought an new Fluid 2 last year (serial number indicated it was a 2006 model) and it leaked fluid within two weeks. I dealt with their customer service and it was replaced quickly with a new 2007 model which also leaked within weeks. I returned it and bought a Kurt Road Machine. CycleOps has great customer service but no fluid trainer is leakproof - EXCEPT the Kurts.

I also bought the angry badger deal.  I received it yesterday and got my first ride on it. It is really nice.  (KK Road Machine). Also, on this deal, when I called they said it changes week to week between kk road machine and blackburn ultra.  Call them and they will give you all the details.  Only one ride on it, but I couldn't be happier with the great deal I got on the angry badger.  I was also looking at the KK road machine, the cycleops 2, and the blackburn ultra, and after my research it became apparent that the KK road machine is the best out of the 3 based on user reviews and features.

So you bought an old model twice.  Not sure how that refutes what I said.

I'm on the Cycleops Fluid and it's pretty good. I do think it could use more max resistance, as I can spin out the largest gear on "sprints" pretty easily, but for long sustained training, it's great, and stable.

Does anyone else practice grabbing their water bottles from their rear aero holder, frame bottle, etc. on the trainer? I've found that the trainer is a great place to practice that dicey motion of reaching back to grab and put back a bottle while on the move.

Just tighten the knob more when you set your wheel in place.

umm, again, no; I only bought one trainer: I bought a 2006 model new, off the shelf of a vendor. CycleOps then replaced it at no charge under warrantee with another new model, which happened to have been manufactured in 2007, which also leaked. I'm sure CycleOps would have been smarter than to send me an old model of trainer that was well-known to be prone to leaking.

My point is: the fluid chambers on them are not sealed, and therefore can leak, as in my case, vs. the sealed fluid chambers of the Kurt models, which cannot leak. CycleOps makes a very good fluid trainer, don't get me wrong - there are enough good reviews out there to prove it, but there are a few bad reviews as well, unlike the non-existent bad reviews of Kurts. At a similar price point, my money is better spent on a road machine.

ETA that, as I stated previously, CycleOps customer service was excellent, and to remind that their warrantee is a lifetime warrantee.

Has anyone with a KK Road Machine have the wheel locking mechanism release while riding, even with the supplied skewer?  I've had issues with mine with nothing serious happening til tonight when I fell over, which caused my wheel to taco all to heck.  Some nights it takes a good 5 minutes to actually get it to lock in securely.

So now I'll end up replacing a 3 month old wheel and need to find a way to get this locking mechanism to truly lock in, with no possibility of releasing unexpectedly.  I was never sold on this quick lock, or maybe there's actually something wrong with it on the one I picked up.  Maybe I'll swing by Bikesport to see what they say, or at least see another unit and try my bike with the taco wheel on it.

I have both and they are both awesome. The Cycleops is lighter so it's easier to take with you to train on race day. I have the 2008 Kurt road Pro with the 6-18 pound flywheel. The kurt has a little more resistance and is calibrated better matching road use. The 22 mph I average in the Kurt averages my road speed pretty accurately and you can add a $50 watt meter. The Fluid 2 spins a few mph faster so my cadence is too fast to do hill sims standing up. I'm 250 pounds. If you don't care about calibration or wattage then the fluid 2 is less expensive.

Not even the KK is leakproof,  mine did.   They have a glass plate for the seal, and mine just happened to crack.  Now they replaced it for free after I paid for shipping both ways.  That being said I have rode many of miles on both the KK and Cycleops and prefer the KK slightly due to a more natural feel.

The Angry Badger deal is $228 right now at BikeSport. That CAN'T be the KK Road, can it? That's $80 under Amazon's price.

Help please?

Yup, bought mine from here a few years ago when he started this deal. Late fall early winter its amazing to see how many of these move through the store.

Tom posts in the Michigan forum from time to time also.

I ordered the AB deal on Monday and is supposed to arrive today (Wed).  ~That is going from Michigan to South Carolina.  Can't beat the deal and if it is a KK like everyone says, can't beat that either.  Great deal all the way around.  Great store!
