Comparatively, $150 is a bargain.

Florida 70.3 is $265..

Plus they moved it up this year, which should make the temps a little cooler.

One of the reasons why Gulf Coast is a first rate race is the little known fact that the race director for Gulf Coast and IMFL are the same: Shelley Bramblett. (IMNA admired the work she did over the years for GC and hired her to do IMFL.)

She is amazingly unflappable ... largely because she prepares for the race - and the unexpected.

Another race to consider is the White Lake Half as it is another quality "independent" race that is not part of the WTC branded machine.

Something I've always wondered, but have never know for sure, is this: Is Kim Bramblett, the Tri-PTC race director, related to Shelly?

I'm debating between White Lake and Gulf Coast.  I did GC back in '06- it kicked my butt, but the race itself was great!  I don't have any complaints about it.

I am thinking I'll end up doing GC again next year- just because with the ocean swim it would be good prep for IM Cozumel!

Huh? It was on 5/10/08 last season.

GC is a great race. I could do if not for 2 reasons: 1) travel expenses and 2) a little early in the season.

That said, my spring HIM has a different set of problems (Macon) 1) hot (GC is also) and 2) hilly

Holy crap, it has been that long?  Doing that race with you and the Augusta TNT mafia seems like yesterday ...

One thing to remember, Culf Coast has almost always been wetsuit legal.  There ain't no way Cozumel will be.

Kind of, but not in a friendly way ... Shelley was first married to Dan Bramblett (who was the first IM CdA race director).  They divorced prior to Dan marrying Kim.

One man, two amazing race director women.

Don't remind me   I am really going to have to work on my swimming if I want a decent IM swim time without a wetsuit.
