Okay so I turn 40 next month and I'm having a crisis. So to take car of it I have signed up to do 3 half ironman races and a full ironman race. My name is Greg and I live near Salem, Oregon. I am in law enforcement and most importantly am the father of 5. They have been gracious enough to allow me to try and kill myself this year so I'm going to try as hard as I can. Seriously though, the kids love to train with me and take part in my training and races as much as possible. My kids range from 13-4 so my oldest son has started doing runs with me and 5k races. The challenge for me is to stay on my training with my work schedule and family responsibilities. I hope this site will help me with some positive peer pressure and just getting to know others who have lost their minds as well.

Welcome and WOW. When you commit, you commit.

I'm somewhat with you. I stepped away from triathlon (and training) for a while but I turn 40 in a couple of years and see Ironman as my goal for that year. You, however, are ramping up so quickly! It's great your kids are so supportive. That will go a long way, I suspect.  Have fun!

Welcome Greg!  I turned 40 last August and have been training since early September.  My goals are similar, but I have given myself two years to accomplish them.  Your family sounds great and will be a big asset with your training requirements.  Good luck and again, welcome.

Welcome Greg, I just turned 42 and am getting faster by the week. Getting the family involved is awesome, I wish I had that when I was younger.

Your logs look great, see you in Oceanside!

Maybe you just need a fast car and a girlfriend. The wife can know about the one...but not the other.

Just curious, what's the time frame for these events? Of course, I'm a 46 year old old-timer, and just doing sprints with my eye on an olympic distance or two next year.

If you can't afford the fast car (and good luck with the girlfriend), you need to go with a fast bike. Either a pimped out road bike, or, what the hell, go right for the tri bike.

Hey Greg,

I too am having my mid-life trisis but I turned 50 in May.  I joined BT in late September and have been in several challenge groups.  They are a great way to meet people, get suport and be held accountable.  I am sure you could join a group for December if you are interested- maybe the pick a challenge or limiter challenge. Just go to the Challenge Me! forum and click to see the various threads. Click on the 1st page of a thread to see if you are interested.  Good luck with your goals!

Kathy
