Pre-race routine:

I got up and woke up the kids. I got my normal Cheerios and putzed around the house. Logan showed up at 7:15 and we headed down to San Ramon, My wife was accompanying Dennae, Layton, Logan and I. We registered and walked around in the cold for a while.

Aaron showed up and I got a cup of Pete's coffee.
Event warmup:

I ran with Aaron for about 1.5Ms. We through in a couple of strides. My legs and lungs felt really tight. I was glad that I was able to warm-up to help my body adjust.

After that I walked with my daughter around the end of the course. I showed her how to put her hands up in victory once she crossed the finish lines. Logan and Layton did not warn-up--but then again they are young and come pre-streched.

I handed my gear off to my sherpa (Danette) and headed toward the front.

Comments:

I started in the front middle after getting my daughter toward the back of the pack. At the gun I took off at an unsustainable pace (to be expected). After the first quarter of a mile I reigned myself in and began to race my race.

During mile two I kept a consistent pace and felt strong. I saw one of my friends stopping and I asked if he was ok. His heart rate had jumped up. I continued onward and
What would you do differently?:

I felt very good at this race and I'm not certain that I would do much different.
Post race
Warm down:

I walked around and kissed Danette. She suggested that I pick-up the t-shirt for my kids as they tend to run out. As I got back I saw Layton (age 13) finishing his race. He did a 25'28" . Great job for his first race ever. About 10 seconds later I saw Logan (age 24) who did a 25'38", also, his first race. It isn't going to be long before those guys catch me.

We pick-up their T-shirts and headed back to Danette to watch Dennae finish. I saw her finishing and I crossed over to the other side to give her a high five. She did the race in 34:15. Again awesome! I am very proud, especially as we decided to do the race the day before.

I meet the Chavezs and John Stark. Nice people.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I am still rehabing and slower than my 5Ks last year, but quickly making it up!

I was really happy with my timing and was able to cut 30 second off my time from a week ago.

Event comments:

This is a great event. I believe this is the 15th year that they have run this race. Great race, great support, great volunteer. Nothing I would change for a local race.

It was amazing the talent at this race. People were completing the race in 15 minutes and change. Wow!

I forgot about this race. Looks like you had a great time, and a 23 isn't anything to sneeze at.
