Pre-race routine:

Up at 5:15. Stopped at the QT for Poptarts but they were out :( Had to settle for a dry blueberry muffin.

Massive traffic getting to AAC. Anded up getting out and walking while we were sittling on the ramp to get back on to the highway.
Event warmup:

Nada!

Comments:

Phew...what can I say, some days you have it, and some days you don't. Today was a day I just did not have it.

From the start, I just knew that it would not be a stellar day. The first two mles were so crowded that is was hard to get into any kind of rhythm. This year they did the start differently. There were corrals based on your projected finish time. I like that idea. But, they corralled the half and full people together. There were 17,000 runners and it was just too bottle-necked.

After that, the only thing I can blame is mysef. This run just hurt. From my ankles to my back, I was just feeling it. Not going to even speculate as to what went wrong. The truth is, it does not matter, And really, although I hoped to do better, I am not disappointed. I mean really, I ran 13.1 miles this morning. What did 99.9% of the world do?

Steve and John were out on their bikes and I saw them three times on the course. That helped a lot. It was like playing where's Waldo. I never knew where they were going to be so I had to keep looking. At mile 4, the first time I saw them, I ditched my iPod. Decided that I did not want it and it was really more of a distraction.

A big congratulations to Shannon who blew away her PR by 10 minutes. Not to mention that she blew by me at mile 7 never to be seen again!! Andy who also PR'd and had become stupid fast. And Shaun who finished his first half today.

What would you do differently?:

This crazy thing called interval training
Post race
Warm down:

FOund Steve. Hobbled to the car and went home. Nap and massage

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I really need to take a more serious approach to run training.

Event comments:

I really can't say enough about this race. From the organization to the volunteers they really know how to do it right. Well placed and staffed aid stations. Great course marking and guides. Even finishers shirts. Can't wait to do it again next year!

I think the no pop tarts doomed you for the day....    sorry to miss you out there, but you still finished,    Next year I'm taking the train to avoid all that traffic

Sounds like a fun race, congratulations!  Joe and I agree with Gary, the pop tarts are a must.  Oatmeal creme pies are good, too  The cool part is, now you can easily beat your time on this one next year!

Wow. Pop tarts. I would have left little chunks of them all over the place if I had tried that. Same for a blueberry muffin too. Yuck.

Oh...way to gut it out. Tough day but you did it.

I think your body was confused about not having to swim and bike beforehand.  It just wasn't ready to run yet  Great job getting out there while the rest of us slept.

Great to see you at the race.  It's always nice to see a familiar face.  Sorry you didn't have the race you wanted.  We all have those days.  Even so, you finished a half mary and had fun.  Great job.
