Corn liquor is what I was asking about, best for listening to hounds striking on the ridge.

I'm fond of Black Bushmills for higher-placed Irish whisky, and for Glenmorangie 12 or 18 for the single-malt. Granted, I'm a fair bit of the noobsauce when it comes to Scotch.

Have not hit that level or caring what alcohol taste like just yet - so anything in a plastic bottle (or even brown paper bag) is good for me!

See if you can find a nice lowland Scotch Whiskey.  The wife swears by them.  And I like em too (I'm not much of a scotch drinker).

I like Jack Daniels Single Barrel as well, though I think it tastes like a mix of 2/3 Crown Royal and 1/3 regular Jack Daniels. Since it costs over twice as much as either, I guess you could have more to sip if you just mixed the other two.

For single malts, Macallan is my favorite, the older the better. Being over $100 and up for a bottle for the 18 year and above, it is a bit spendy.

My second favorite is Highland Park 12 Year, still not cheap, but less painful on the wallet.

I am not a fan of bourbon at all, although I like Gentleman Jack for some reason.

Scotch is the way to go. Sipping scotch is a nice 15 year old Glendronach or Glenlivet in a sherry cask, or Pinch. My brother gave me some 30 year old scotch that I cannot remember, but boy is it good.

Jamesons will do fine, as well as Chivas Regal or Dewars, a very underrated pour. I can live with Cutty Sark as well, but that is more poker scotch than sipping scotch.

Jefferson's Reserve (small batch).  I sip it "neat"  by the fire listening to the coyote.

Mostly I like Bushmill's, but I recently found Van Winkle's 12 year old reserve.  It took another 9 months till I could get a bottle of my own, but totally worth it.  I'm thinking of picking up a second or third bottle for future use, but it is kind of pricey.  Still worth it, though.

I'm quite fond of the Macallan 18 (Sherry or Fine Oak are both excellent). Also, a second for the sherry-oak Glenlivet 12.

My hubby turned 30 and got about 15 bottles of whiskey. We are very slowly working our way through them! My favourites are Glenlivet and Glenmorangie. The older the better

I don't like whiskeys that have that smokey peaty taste. They taste like the smoked pigs ears I give to my dog smell. Yuck! Maybe its just my girly palate, my hubby likes the peaty ones.

Both excellent choices. I also am quite fond of Chivas Regal, Dimple, or LAPHROAIG (pronounced 'La-froyg')

Little history my grandmother was born at Star Hill farm in the Burks family house, before it was known as Makers Mark. Her last name was Mills they were part owners of the farm and distillery and lived in a house next to the main house thats no longer there. When prohibition came about they went of business and moved to Louisville. The Samuel's bought the farm in the fifty's and started Makers Mark. Oh I can't remember the last time I drank bourbon, I think it was Jim Beam I was a Hank jr. fan.

Jameson hands down...

I was always a fan but also drank Jack and Walker...

Went to the factory in Dublin and took the sipping tour.  Got to tastse them all back to back to back.  There was no comparison.  Jameson was far superior.

Now I just mix Jack with Seven Up.  For straight up sipping Jameson is my choice.

Grand-Dad and Wild Turkey. They've definitely gotten lost in the profusion of high-end bourbons over the last few years, but I think they're both really good. I esp. like the 80prook Wild Turkey.

Glenmorangie is magnificent. It has been the best selling whiskey in Scotland for a few years running.

Jack single barrel is nice.

x2!! Love it but I'm a Jack fan so I'm biased. I'll also add in a vote for Basil Hayden's and if it hasn't been mentioned, Buffalo Trace. Considering the fact that Buffalo Trace is pretty inexpensive I was surprised by how good it was.

I'm a bourbon drinker. My regular drink is Maker's on the rocks. Every bar has it, it's not horribly expensive for drinking at home and I just love it. I'm drinking Knob Creek this week, also great. If you want to spend more and like bourbon, Hirsch is the best I've ever had. I love it.

You've co-opted 2goggs. Or vice versa.

I'll go with, on the scotch side, Glenmorangie (everyday), Laphroig (31 year old). And next comes the Lagavulin (16 year old).  You gotta check the years, though, to make sure they're what you want. Bowmore makes a nice old scotch (rumor has), but I've never had it...only seen the carnage.

On the Irish side, Jameson is top-shelf...it's just a question of how expensive a bottle you want to go with.  Short of the most expensive, one of the bargain plays I've had is Bushmills 10-year single malt (again, you can get an older bottle that will cost you more, and be - slightly - better). Nice bottle of Irish.

I'd say Bulleit or Woodford Reserve would do you fine.  Good sipping bourbons.

My personal drink is Glenlivet 15yr French Oak Reserve.
