Hi all!
I am registered to do the race, but have to back out, but will still be coming to watch my friends. I am coming from South Florida and i am looking for a ride home on Sunday if anyone is heading that way and has extra room in their car (no gear with me).  Thanks!

I've not done this race before, but in previous events I've been able to leave a small bag or tub under my bike on Saturday as to not have to carry all the junk in on Sunday morning.  On the schedule it says "Bike and gear" check-in but it's not 100% clear what 'gear' means.

Does anyone remember from last year?

According to the athlete guide, you will be allowed a "small" duffle bag. Probably not a bag like the one they use to put hockey equipment in, but a small gym bag would work.

Yes, I saw that but was hoping I could find more detail.  I usually use a small plastic tub that is nice because it keeps stuff dry, away from animals, and is small enough to fit under the front pedals once the bike is up on the rack.  In fact, my last non Ironman 70.3 several people said to me "man, that's smart".  Perhaps I should patent it!!!!! Smile

Thanks for the information.

Hi guys,

I'm packing and have another question:

What kind of things do they sell at the IM store?  I can't find my black rubber-band-y things that secure my Aero Drink bottle.  I suspect I packed them in the gear bag I sent with my bike, but I made a pretty detailed list of what I had put in there...and they aren't listed   If I get to FL to find they are not with me any suggestions on where I can pick some up?

Also, I was going to suggest we wear Tshirts from races or something similar on Saturday so as to recognize the group at Carrabba's?  I'm all worried I'll end up at a table alone as I won't recognize anyone   So, could someone grab the redhead in the black Tri for the Cure shirt?  Thanks.

Andria...
They have all kinds of stuff at the bike shop set up where you pickup your bike from TriBike. If you need anything for your aero drink, they will have it.
Also EVERYONE, don't forget, I'll be wearing my Lime Green Sports Beans shirt to dinner Sat night. It will stand out nicely against the Bright Red Glasses of Cabernet at my table.
Taking my laptop, so i'll be posting throughout the weekend.
Looking forward to meeting everyone!!

andria, if worse comes to worse, as long as your aerobars are close enough, you can put velcro on the aerobars and the underside of the bottle that would set on top of the aerobars. i had that setup for a while and i NEVER lost the aerodrink or even came close to losing it for that matter. are any of you guys planning on the sat morning swim at luckys? my buddy and i will be there, so if anyones going, please introduce yourself. travel safe, see you all this weekend.

Arrived in Orlando early this evening, greeted by wall of heat and humidity. And that was before I'd even left the air conditioned terminal!

All of a sudden, this thing is getting very real!!

I'm committed Saturday but would enjoy meeting folks Friday evening. I'm staying with friends about mid-way between the airport and Disney. Anyone like to get together for some tri-worthy cuisine? Any suggestions (I favor Asian).

Jim

Leaving DTW tomorrow 0735.  Friday night food would be great.  I want to go to the Athlete briefing at 4pm Friday (at Fort Wilderness) after packet pick up, maybe any who are interested could meet up there and then we could go somewhere close. I want to get to bed early Friday night because I usually don't sleep much (or at all) the night before.

BTW when we meet in person you guys can call me Suzanne.

See you soon!!

1- Check-in says you must check in your "bike and gear" - what gear do I need to check in? Must  you leave all the sneakers, shoes, helmet, entire gear bag on Saturday?
2- Have the waves been annouced yet / I didn't see them anywhere.

Good luck everyone!!!

I just did the Danskin tri last weekend at the same place.  No need to lock it.  They have security all night.  We dropped our bikes off on Sat and all was well on Sunday.  Before leaving on Sunday, they checked our race numbers to the bike to make sure we didn't "upgrade" on the way out.

Bring your transition gear bag on Sunday....bright an early!  Good luck y'all.  I wish I was there to cheer you on, but am working downtown all day.

Im staying off 192, across from the bike route just after the first aid station as you head west. I put a link to the hotel a few pages back. The Carrabas is just in front of the hotel and the Outback is at the other end of the shopping plaza.
Guppie, they watch the bikes all night so no lock needed.
Its really not to hot at all today, with the rain it was very nice but we'll see as the weekend gets here.
A lot of question you guys are asking are answered in the Athlete Packet. It might be a quicker way to find your answers.
Heading off to bed shortly as alarm is set for 5:30am tomorrow for a lite 45min run around 7am.
Head over to Disney to p/u packet around 1-1:30. I'll be in my Lime Green Sports Beans shirt so if you see me, say hi!!

Electric tape works well as does the big hair elastics to attache your aero drink bottle. I use tape as it keeps it quiet.

Good Morning from East Orlando....
Nice morning, clear skys and about 70 degrees. Good morning for a lite run.
As we move into the weekend I thought it might be fun to share our goals for the race with eachother? Nothing like some self inflicted presure.
Anyway heres mine, I really have three:
1) Finish
2) Finish faster then last year, (6hrs16min)
3) Finish sub 6hrs.

If the Tri Gods smile on me and I have a clean bike and im out of T2 in under 3hrs 50min I will have a big smile on my face starting the run. Then its all up to me.
Heading over to the mouse house later, will give an update on activities.
