I'm sure someone has done it, but anyone here on BT (or know someone)?

I hit 300k pretty easily just doing tri training.  I figure some good swimmers can hit a million in a year.

That equates to 2740 yards per day, or just over 19k a week.  I would think that college level swimmers do about 3k a day or more, no?

More like several million a year. I swam D3 and used to average more than 50k/week. Over Christmas break, our coach used to try to kill us and we'd do around 150k LCM in 11 days.

I'm sure the D1 swimmers did much, much more...

Why would you want to?

That much time swimming think if you spennt that running and/or biking the bigger dividends you would see in time improvement.

The BTer I know that swims the most is over 600K and she had an injury and had to take quite a bit of time off swimming.

Way back in Highschool, I swam 4 hrs a day (2 hrs AM, club team, 2 hrs PM, highschool team).  Each day was probably close to 10k yards.  With a Saturday, we probably averaged 55k per week.  I bet we swam close to 2.5 million yards per year (55,000x52)

In college we averaged 60-70,000 yards per week.

In a big week over Christmas break, we did 108,000 in a week, my personal record. 61 miles in a pool is long way....

Spoken like a true duathlete, forced to swim, and hating every lap of it.

I am personally aiming for a 500k yard year somewhat soon.  I think my biggest year was 4xx---ish.

I think one million would be a LOT.  You would have to be either a collegiate swimmer or have some huge long distance swim race you were training for.  Otherwise, I just don't see it happening.  I've done the 10k open water swim three years in a row and I still am only making it to 200-300k....

She won the ST swim challenge by doing over 200K in a month. She is a good swimmer and really likes to swim...and she is a very good triathlete as well.

I remember the summer before I went off to school, the distance lanes did more than 100K meters a week...including our taper for nationals at the end of the summer. We did over a million meters in that summer. For the whole year we were probably easily over 3 million.

(wow...that's more than 1800 miles...no wonder my shoulder was trashed)

And here I thought this was going to be a team beer drinking challenge. Imagine my disappointment to find it was about swimming!
