Yes. I am doing it as the third HIM prior to Ironman Arizona. I have been to the race twice but have never done it. Have you done it before?

No I have not. I wass supposed to do it last year, and got deployed through work for some stuff overseas, so was unable to go. I have never been to that part of the country either. Seatle was about it.

What about you? Trying to find out how hilly this course is? How well is it organized, etc...

I would call it rolling hills. The worst hills looked like on the run to me, but I wasn't doing the event either so it probably makes a big difference. I drove the entire bike course and it looks like there are two larger hills but nothing like California if you've done that. It is really pretty country around the lake not too far from Seattle. I am looking forward to it. It can get pretty warm there that time of year also so be prepared for that. Where are you at?

It appeared to be a typical 70.3 event and well organized. The only challenge is the transition area is a little cramped compared to some races but I didn't really see any real problems. I know some complained of vehicles on the bike course as they cannot close it due to it being the only road around the lake.

If the heat is dry, then no problems. I'm located in Las Vegas, NV and July-September can be really warm. 2 years ago, 4th of July it was 128'F as my father remembers it very well since he helped me build an outdoor BBQ. But last year, the hotest was around 112'F so not as bad.

I have done CA twice so far, and doing it again this year. Thanks for the input and see you there.

I'm planning on making it my A race this year - but I've never run it before - at some point I'm certainly close enough to train the course and will report back when I do (there's still snow on the ground here so it'll be awhile...)

I'm attempting it again this year.  I DNF'd two years ago because of a nasty bike wreck.  The hills on the bike course are surprising and there are more than you think there are if you've just driven around the course.  If I remember correctly there are at least 2 pretty long uphills that weren't exactly fun.  The race was run well, but I don't have any experience with other races of this length, so I don't know if it was better or worse.

here's a race report from last year from a runner I follow on Twitter

I am doing this race, too. First HIM. Last year I did a few Sprints and Olys. I was at PacificCrest last year and the heat was incredible. If Lake Stevens is hot and hilly then I guess I know what I will be preparing for this summer!

The hill description sound like the CDA course, but half as long. This will be my A race this year too. I know the 140.6 IM events are very well organized and I'd like to think the 70.3's are too. Good luck everyone!

This is my first HIM. I moved up to the Pacific Northwest from Southern California, and it feels like every ride, run and race is rolling hills here!

I'm contemplating this and trying to work it in my schedule with my coach if there are still some spots left.  Some changes in my life and I decided to move to Oregon to get out of southern California.  I might forgo the California 70.3 to do this race.  We'll see.

Anybody have any info if this sold out last year and if so when? I am looking to do my first HIM in June either Boise 70.3 or Pacific Crest.

A friend did the Pacific Crest HIM last year and had a nightmare time because of the heat. If I do it, I am hoping for something closer to normal. Boise starts a 2 PM which sounds good but I'd be concerned about showing up without a full tank.

I've signed up for Lake Stevens as my first HIM. I will be in the Seattle area in the next few weeks and thought I would try to drive the area if there isn't too much snow. And....I'm representin' Oregon even though I physically live in San Diego...Uncle Sam dictates where I go these days!

The thing about Pac Crest is the climb over Mt. Bachelor. I had an altitude issue after the race. Is does get hot and humid there too. I'm not trying to discourage you because it's a very scenic course, but also can be challenging. If it was easy everyone would do it, right?

You won't be the lone Oregonian but I bet SD is great right now. We're expecting some more cold weather but no snow. Maybe you can give a heads up on the course?

I wish I could do Lake Stevens again this year, but it's too close to Ironman Canada. To answer a couple questions: yes it's hilly, no it didn't sell out last year (we registered really late). I'll be back in 2010!

I'm there, just signed up. Looking forward to it as it will be a tune up for silverman for me. I am really excited to see some trees. Seeing as I live in Reno we have none and it really makes me sad, so brown and dusty.

Looking for some information, I am coming in from Hawaii, is a wet suit a must for Lake Stevens? Also is it correct that there are only two water bottle support stations on the bike? Thank you, and any additional advice or support on the course would be much appreciated.

I just signed up for it, doing it as a warm up for IMCOZ. I plan on going hard on the swim (for me) and just hammering the bike. We'll see what's left in the legs and tank for the run. I really want to get a good gauge of what my legs will feel like again for an IM. I did this last time when the race was in July as a warm up for IMC '06, and yep that is about what my legs felt like at the start of IMC's run.

When I did the race in 2006, they took the water temp from a bit out and down to make the race wetsuit legal. Lk Stevens will be pretty warm come mid August, there should be plenty of hot July days to warm that lake up. Not sure you'd need wet suit. Last weekend at Lk Sammamish it was really warm for this time of year, warmer than usual.

Yes there were only two water stations on the bike course. Its a double loop though, so they are not that far a part.

It will be interesting to see if it sells out this year. Being so close to IMC they must be loosing athletes to IMC that would have done both if Lk Stevens was in early July still.

So I am not use to swimming in fresh water, I have swam decently in several salt water tri's. I guess my biggest question is, would a wet suit be required or is it strickly an option to go faster for those looking to qualify?  Also is there such thing as a wet suit rental? Never really had to look into a wet suit. Thank you again.
