Most of the pools in the area are 25m long( one lap =50). The Frankin Y has a nice pool, but I think you have to be a member. I have been told you can swim at Milford HS for $2. I understand its a nice pool, but I dont know how big it is, I am sure if you call the school they will give you size and jours of operation.. You can swim at Whitin Community Center for $6. Check the website for lap swim times.

I live in Uxbridge and often swim at Whitin Community Center...but come spring its open water only. Lots of great places to swim around here.Welcome to BT

Anyone can join, but it is significantly more expensive if you're not student (MIT or Wellesley), faculty, staff or family of any of the three.  I don't know that you can only join the pool - I think you end up joining the whole thing which includes access to two pools, two gyms and a bunch of other good stuff.

Unfortunately, the alumni pool is 25 yds and the main pool is only set up in 50 meter configuration during winter break and the summer session, I believe. (Maybe other times for hosting meets?  Not sure.)  Most of the time they turn the lane lines the opposite way so they have twice the lanes to better accommodate more people.  They just switched back to the short way on the 14th of this month.  Not sure when they go back, but it might not be until May.

I recall the one at Hanscom AFB where Minuteman Masters practices is 50M.  It's definitely open to Masters swimmers, so I imagine you can get a public pass one way or another.  I've never been there, though.  Anyone here swim in that pool?

Milford H.S. has a public pool, but it is not 50m. I've never swam at Dedham but they also have a public pool, not sure the size though. Check it out, they have very reasonable hours.

This is where I swim also! I am happy with their pool and schedule. It is the best pool within 20-30 mins of me. I live in Oxford.  May, what day/time do you usually swim? I wonder if I have ever seen you there. Oct, Nov, and Dec I swam with the masters in the morning Tues and Thurs and whenever I could get there the rest of the week.

Hello all -

New to BT and to Tri - looking to train and race my first sprint sometime this year.  Glad to see so many active MA BTers on here.  I swam for the majority of my life (up until college)...but have been out of the game for a couple years.  Hanscom is where I did some of my winter long course training.  It's definitely a 50m pool, though I'm not 100% sure of the public policy.  I trained there with my old swim club (North Shore Swim Club) and I know, as running4beer said, the Minuteman Masters train there.  Nice facility from what I remember.

I just did some googling and found this link:   http://www.swimmersguide.com/query/Detail.cfm?PoolID=9440

According to this, doesn't look like the AFB is going to be any help by yourself.  Minuteman seems pretty reasonable though, if you're looking for long course access.

Anyway, hopefully I'll get to meet some of you soon.  Would love to tag along whenever I can on outings, whether for training or social.  Looking forward to joining the MA tri community!

I just got notice of a swimming event March 1st, and the email says it's at "YMCA of the North Shore, Sterling Center, Beverly MA 50 meter pool"

Never been there before, but one to add to the 50M pool list.  I might check it out if I'm crazy enough to try a pool 5k in less than a month!  (If anyone else is interested in doing the 5k, I'll fwd or post the details.

I would be interested in knowing more about a 5K swim. Not so sure about doing it in a pool, but I would really like to know the details

It's a NEMSA event.  6:30 am start on March 1st at the Beverly Y... which is the main reason I have to think so hard about it... that's WAAAAY early for me, especially having to drive and navigate an hour prior.

Depending on number of swimmers it could be either indoor "open water", or traditional pool swim.  They have the option to remove and reconfigure the lane lines if it's manageable.

The event is $15.00  to cover cost of T-Shirt, refreshments, etc., but you have to be a member of New England Marathon Swimming Association which is $15 for the year (you could sign up at the event) and gets you $10 off reg for the Gloucester OW swim in Aug (I think that's a 1.2miler).

If you want to do it, email David at [email protected] by February 24th.

I completely forgot about that pool - they renovated the building a couple years ago and the facility is beautiful.  My Dad actually was the architect on the project so it's a COMPLETELY unbiased opinion Wink  Seriously though, last time I was there it was awesome.

Anyway, 6am is waayyy early...and I definitely won't be up for that type of swim my march 1.  Good luck though!

Sterling Y in Beverly is very nice.  50 m pool is only open on certain mornings when their swim team has practice.  They keep one lane open for the public and the rest of the pool is for the Sharks.  Othewise their two 25 yards pools are always open.

VERY NICE FACILITY - Laughing

Hey all, I actually found a 75 m pool at the Dedham health and athletic complex's summer club, http://www.dedhamhealth.com/club/scripts/section/section.asp?NS=SP3... it is unfortunately only open in the summer months and it has a monthly fee like most gyms, just thought Id let ya know.

I think Dedham health & athletic is 75 feet (i.e. 25 yards).

BTW, I also swim at the Franklin Y... the lanes are usually quite full for the mid-day lap sessions. Last summer it was impossible to consistently get a lane, I may need to switch to Hopkinton State Park or use North Attleboro Y instead.
