Sorry for confusion - I agree they will have onsite registration, but you now need to pay when you register... which I believe will shorten the lines significantly in 09.  There are lots of people who won't pay $500 for a maybe or even a probably... all of whom were willing to stand in line in for a few hours for a maybe... as long as they got to make a decision to pay or not weeks later.

Some conflicting info here so I called WTC. I just got off the phone with Brittany (very nice by the way) and she confirmed there will be on site registration and volunteers will have priority Monday morning.  you must pay the $525 at the time of registration.

now a more pressing issue...where are BT volunteers meeting for beer the friday night before the race?

I like your thinking- the LP Brewpub is always a popular spot.  And since we are not racing on Sunday, what's wrong with a get-together at a bar on Saturday night as well?

I'm beginning to think that it will be more fun to volunteer than is was to race...

I was on Kayak duty for 2008, the rain sucked.

2009 I have bike check in from 10am-3pm!!! I can't wait for all the bike porn!

I am signing up for 2010! But what they say is true, every year it rotates from crappy to nice weather. So 2009 should be an amazing day but 2010 will be ! haha. However sign up again (which I plan on) and in 2011 it'll be really nice!

I'll be camping, last year I set up a tent right across the street from the LP Pub/Brew and right next to the water.

Training wise I'll swim the loop and bike the loop on Friday. Saturday will be an AM swim then PM run loop of the course post Vol work and pre dinner!

I cannot wait!!!!!!! This is gonna be bad .

I'm thinking IMFL also in 2010... time will tell.

Thanks to everybody who posted details about registering for 2010.  I received my volunteer assignment sometime last week - I'll be a bike handler in transition.  It will be fun to meet everybody....I can't wait!

I will be volunteering in 2009 to get a 2010 spot. For all of those thinking they will try to register on-line I wouldn't risk it every second person in triathlon I know here in CT is planning to do the 2010 event. With the current finanical crisis most people around this area are looking at signing up for LP given easy driving location.

I will be using the weekend of the 2009 event as training weekend prep for IM Canada. beers on the Sat/Friday sound good to me!!!

Just submitted my volunteer registration.  With the two young ones I'm praying I get an early assignment.  I was just going to drive up for the day(spending the week in Lake George) and I might as well volunteer and guarantee myself a spot for 2010.

I signed up to volunteer this year so I can get in next year's race. I signed up last week but have not received my assignment yet...

I was there last year and spent the day in the rain watching the race. It was inspiring to watch the people complete the race in those conditions.

Got my volunteer assignment--I'm at the Cascade Inn bike aid station. Anyone else?

I'm definitely signing up for 2010. I hope the weather theories are totally inaccurate. lol.

Are you allowed to swim in the lake the day before? That would be fun. Although...might need to get a wetsuit before I try that.

I've spectated a few IMLP's myself and done a fair share of camping up that way. I am sad to say that the weather theories are true! Laughing

Every time we go up there, we always go here: http://www.ubuale.com/It's a great little pub.

Okay, so onsite sign-up is the morning after?  If so, I have to extend my stay in Lake George by a day!

I'm just conflicted about only staying the weekend. I go up annually to the LP area to backpack the Adirondacks. The second year I was up there, all these roads were closed and there were crazy looking cyclists everywhere I turned. I had no idea what an IM was at that point and I remember being a little annoyed and wanting to get away from the craziness. Me and my backpacking partner had forgotten to bring sunglasses with us, so we stopped by one of the kiosks before heading to the trailhead and both picked up some shades. Many years later, idly playing with them, I noticed it had the M-Dot insignia in the corner of one of the lenses. Foreshadowing, much???

Still want to be able to hike there, but may have to wait until the end of the summer to return. This July trip is dedicated to triathlon only!

I volunteered last year, and will be racing it this year. My question is, will they still allow the current year's athletes to sign up again for 2010 ? Last year, they did it the couple days before...which kinda sucks since now you have to pay the full fee as you sign up but I'd like to know what the race itself is like before committing for another year.

Anyone can swim the days before the race. They have buoys up and it is quite fun. In the morning they have the Gatorade swim where there is an area you can secure your bag while you swim and get a free Gatorade bottle or drink after wards.

Last year I swam Thursday, Friday and Saturday before the race.

And if you don't have a wetsuit, you'll almost certainly have the opportunity to demo one at one of the Gatorade swims.. at least that has been true in previous years.

Does anyone know the last date that you can sign up to volunteer and still be guaranteed entry?  Can I sign up the week before the race? I would like to volunteer this year and participate in the ’10 LPIM; however, my wife doesn’t want to hear anymore about triathlons as we have some more important things on our plate right now (our first child is due within a month).

I volunteered late last year, maybe June, I think and I had no problem getting in.  However, I had no choice in assignment - just whatever hadn't been filled yet.

I'm also interested in volunteering for 2009 in order to race 2010.  But since I seem to gravitate toward low paying careers like the military and teaching, money is an issue.  What are some low cost alternatives for lodging?  What would be the best volunteer position to have that could be done on race day? (thus requiring me to be there the least amount of time)

Ideally, I'd like to be able to roll into town (from Central Massachusetts) on Saturday, work the race Sunday, register Monday, and head back home.

Anybody want to carpool?  Split a room?  Any suggestions are welcome!

How long are folks waiting to get confirmation of a volunteer assignment? I signed up back in mid-February but haven't heard anything yet..

I signed up to volunteer at Florida and didn't hear from anyone until right before so I wouldn't worry about it.

Is there a consensus on whether this race will sellout onsite again this year now that they changed the rules requiring you to pay for it? And the economy isn't helping any I'm sure. I really want to register for 2010 but now I'm not sure I'll be able to take the Monday off of work.

I heard about my volunteer assignment but it came from the aid station captain, more of an introduction than anything official.  I've yet to hear anything from the race.  I wouldn't worry about it either.  That said, certainly couldn't hurt to send an email confirming.

The odds are VERY high that it will sell out onsite unless they hold some slots back for online.  If you "really" want to race it in 2010, then I think you have to be there.  Otherwise, you're taking a big chance.
