Is the first run the same as last year?  That little hill killed me, lol.

Yep, through the gardens. Good change rather than running through the nursery twice.

Wish I was but I am doing the Mardi Gras Mambo on Saturday and can't do both.

Bear, any idea when the first RVW Tri will be?

Looks like we're only going to have one, and it's tentatively scheduled for August 3. I've asked them to reconsider the date as it's the same day as River Cities.

I've done stand alone running and cycling races but never a Du...I'm signed up for the Opelousas  DU the weekend after. Would this be a good race to prepare for the longer 2/16/2 or any other opinions...sorry if this doesn't make sense

I'm of the "more is better" school, and you will benefit from doing races prior to your goal race, another race gives you opportunity to practice transitions, see what goes on (if you've never done a race) and have more fun. But a 2/12/2 race is not much shorter or different than a 2/16/2. The biggest difference you may see is that RVW is smaller at <75 participants whereas Opelousas will be closer to 150. Opelousas is also designated as the state championship duathlon, so the competition on the front end may be a little more intense, although either race is accomodating and welcoming to the beginner as well.

I believe that last race (Tri) was during a tropical depression, therefore the roads were probable slick. Unfortunately I missed the race but I am looking forward to the nest one.

FYI, Just spoke to the RD, she is checking alternative dates but wants very much not to conflict with River Cities. Will update.

I believe that last race (Tri) was during a tropical depression, therefore the roads were probable slick.

Both of the RIP's I did last were under wet conditions. On the second one i had a hard crash going about 21mph and my best friend broke his femur in a seperate incident.

We had originally signed up to do San Destin tri that week, but when it got cancelled we decided to head to New Iberia.

Both accidents were kinda freak things and if you can believe it, happened when we were both trying to be extra careful.  It took me 2 months to get the courage to get back on my bike and my buddy hasn't been on his since (off of the trainer that is).  We joke with him all the time telling he he has the most expensive trainer in the country.  (cervelo P3)

In time i'll go back to where it happened, but right now, it is kinda a superstitous thing.  I have no ill words for the race, its volunteers, other racers or location...just not ready to head back yet.

Good luck to you guys racing.  My race fee went to buying a replacement cell phone this week after mine crapped out.  Hope I'll be able to race Opelousas.

I hope the weather holds up for ya'll.
