Has anyone ever used race day wheel rental companies? If you wanted to rent a race wheel/set which type of wheel would you want to use? I want to create a poll but would like a, pretty significant, list of wheels to offer. Throw them at me gang..what's your dream wheel?

There are a billion threads here about specific race wheel choices, so I'm not going to get into that aspect of your quesiton.

But...I have used racedaywheels.com...for Beach-2-Battleship last year...and they were everything they promised to be.

Disc rear/trispoke front is the fastest combination for nearly any conditions, but a deep spoked wheel is better for IM, because it beats you up less.

Damn...couldn't resist.

I am doing IMAZ this year and plan on disc rear 808 front or 808 all around.  The reason I might do 808 is that is what I want to ultimately buy, and use a cover on the back when needed.

I used the 404 in the front I beleive and 808 for the back wheel from Racewheels, LOVED IT!!!! Gained about .5 mph, which was worth it for me. I was VERY concerned about the cut-off times. They were great to work with.

I actually work for Echappe as their Philadelphia rep and overall Triathlon knowledge. Even though we are smaller than raceday wheels we offer a much larger variety of wheels. They do have Zipp, as do we, but we also carry HED, Bontrager, and a few other smaller name brands.

You can check out the website for some information on rentals and such. And the wheels you'd want to rent all depend on the course. I'm a big fan of HED 60 front and 90 rear or a HED Jet Disc with H3 front.

I'd go with the 808. If the winds come up at all, they are cross winds for part of the out and back loop (That you do 3x), and from what I've heard (Never raced with a disc) the handling can be a beeyatch.

Also, I don't know if you've ridden the IMAZ course, but alongside the road on the Beeline highway part, they dig these like 2" deep, inch long, 8 inch wide gouges in series as "Wake up dummy!" rumble strips along the side of the road, and if a gusts runs you over some of those, it's really easy to pop a tire.
