I guess the rented wetsuit should be good to go. I will go home at lunch and give mine a bath just in case. I agree I don't want any suprise ventilation. And tap water is cheap.

Yup. Also the only time I've ever had it rip on me was when I didn't wear it for a little over a month and then put it on without soaking it. So, of my limited experience, soaking is well worth it

Good luck this weekend, all you Rumpassers.

Did I just use the word rumpassers? That just sounds wrong.

Have a great race!

Weekend almost here. Heading out for the last proper workout before the tri. I am so excited... this is my first tri and it has been a long time coming! Anyhow, was wondering if anyone knows of a good website to check water temp at Lake Anna? The warmer the better, I was not made to swim, bike or run in the cold!

Well, I went down to Rumpass and rode the Sprint bike course today.  It was beautiful weather and it seems like a fun course.  I ran out of time to throw on the wetsuit and take a dip, but I did stick my toe in the water.  For what it is worth, it seemed pretty reasonable.  WAY warmer than the water in the Mad River up in Vermont that we used to swim in (with no wetsuits).  At least, that's what I will keep telling myself.

The race director texted my tri coach this afternoon and said it was up to 62. We'll be fine - much better than 50-something.

Here I was already mentally adding to my having taken a shower in 37 degree water and flying doors off in -4 C temp stories

Should be a fun day tomorrow.

Good news: Setup Events reports water temp 4/16/09 at 4PM.

Bad news: I caught a cold, and have to bail.

Good luck to all, I'll be waiting for Kinetic.  Smile

How flat is the bike course?

My wife and I swam in our wetsuits for the first time last night at Ida Lee (man did we get some funny looks). Anyway I hope that I was swimming as fast as it felt like I was swimming.

If the bike and run are flat I am having a good feeling about this race. Now I am not pointing to the fence or anything I am just feeling good. I am stoked about the first race of the season.

Wahoo.

The bike course is flat - not WOD flat but not very hilly. They changed the run course this year but if it is anything like last year it is flat.

Great!  The bike course is awesome as well.  Relatively flat.  The firstsection on Eastham is a very slight climb and Eastham is the roughest of the roads and when I say rough, that's because Kentucky Springs is perfect, so it's not that Eastham is bad, just more vibration.  When you reach moody town road it is flat for approximately a mile and a half, then gets in to some gentle rolling hills with a few straight stretches.  In general moody is flat to up hill a little.  When you reach kentucky, the road is great and flat to down hill as is Bumpass and the first part of Greens Crossing.  Towards the latter half of Greens crossing you get back into some hills, but there are no significant climbs on the whole course.

Looking forward to leaving early today.  I'm going to head down to the lake, get on the boat and go fish the banks of the dam up until pre race meeting this evening then I'll drop over to the marina for the meeting.  Good luck to everyone!

How the heck did that happen? I thought it took weeks to raise that much water 10 degrees.

I found out that 60 degrees is perfect for full wetsuit and the latex cap. Ear plugs are a good thing too!

I found out that the neoprene cap was money well spent and I should've bought the booties too!  Going to have to try ear plugs too!

Waiting for my splits.  I honestly think my swim split is as long or longer than the bike or run splits!
