Pre-race routine:

Rank out of women 1302/2048

Woke up. Reluctantly got OOB. If I had been doing this on my own I would have rolled back over and gone back to sleep. Gthered my things and drove over topick up Tom. Got a NICE parking space and we hung out in the convention center.
Event warmup:

HAHAHAHA very funny. As if that would help.
Run
  • 1h 39m 33s
  • 9.32 miles
  • 10m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

Tom (aka Linus) and I ran together. He is a much better runner than I and wouldn't leave me. This was is longest run ever in his life so go give hime some congrats. He would have done much better if he had not stayed with my slow sorry butt. I felt really bad about that. I don't think he actually believed me before today when I told him I suck at running. He is now a believer.

It didn't start out terrible. The first mile was crowded and was easy. Second mile even split and steady 10 minute miles. Third mile similar pace but my legs were starting to fatigue. At the mile 4 marker I took my first 1 minute walk break and VOILA we run mile 5 in 10 ish minutes faster than mile 4. Ran to mile 6 then went to a 9:1 run walk. Took a few extra walk breaks as well. I really crumped after mile 6. I thought about it later and I think it was fluid and electrolyte loss related partially. My achilles have been bothering me lately and they hurt off and on randomly. It was pretty warm compared to our recent temperatures and I probably lost a good 3-4 pounds out there and only took in one water bottle of fluid. I need to drink more sooner and use an electrolyte supplement.

Its days like these I wonder why I bother with running. Its pretty demoralizing to be passed by people who at 50 pounds overweight and people who are 20-30 years older than you who are speed walking.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more, take some electrolytes.....I dont' know why I suck at this so bad. It totally was not my day.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked to the convention center and got some drinks and food. We went to the expo to get Tom some tri clothes for St. Anthony's. Guys are so easy...."How about this and this?" "OK fine" we are done.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

dehydration
electrolytes
sore achilles
lack of genetic talent

Event comments:

A good race as always. Not too big not too small. I have done the 5K the 15K and the 1/2 marathon and all are very well done. Close to home and easy to get to.

Good job getting up and not rolling over.....and finishing despite the lack of genetic talent!

It is all the more impressive you stick with it with the genetic ability we have. If it were easy would it be rewarding?

Cool thing with you is you are accepting of how stuff goes, and don't get mental about it like I do

Glad you helped Tom do his longest run ever!

Nice work~

Congrats!!!  You DO NOT suck at running---you are able to stand at the start line and run to the finish---there will always be people faster and slower than you!  One thing I have learned with racing tri's and run's is that one should NEVER underestimate the people that pass you.  I've been passed by people that, in logic, I should not have been, but I was....I train harder and move on.....

You did wonferfully!!!!!!!!  Congrats!!!!!!!
