I'm signed up.  Anybody else?  Anybody know what the bike course is going to be?  They describe it as a '3 loop criterion type' course.  Just curious where exactly it'll be.

I'm considering it.  I'm registered for Parris Island, not sure I want to do back to back weekends.  Especially since I've been out for the past week with strep throat.   Are you doing both?

Yes, I'm doing both.  I signed up for Parris Island before I even knew about Columbia.  The Columbia one is practically in my back yard, so I feel almost compelled to do it.  I probably won't go all out in either, so I'm not worried about recovery.  These are definitely 'B' or 'C' races for me.

Yep...I'm doing both PI and Columbia. Columbia should be interesting...I'm looking forward to the 1pm start, but interested to see how I perform in my third sprint in 4 weekends.

Carp, you guys may have conned me into it.  I'll see if I can HTFU a bit and then make a decision.  Columbia is about half the travel distance of Parris Island for me.  When I registered for Parris Island, the Columbia race wasn't on the site yet, or I wouldn't have done Parris Island...

I wasn't totally sure I'd do Columbia at first (even though it is, as I said, practically in my back yard, literally), but as I got more and more psyched for PI, I signed up for Cola too.  I'm relatively new to triathlon, but despite some minor injuries right now, I'm getting very very excited about racing this year.  I hope I still feel that way in a few weeks...

I haven't signed up but am 90% sure I will be doing Columbia. It should be an interesting course, the bike will start out with a short uphill before turning onto Main st. which will be a short but STEEP uphill until a little past blossom. After that it will be flat going past USC until the downhill on Gervais street, which will give everyone a chance of picking up some real speed. That ride down to Harden will be FAST!! Then flat through five points and onto blossom which is then mostly downhill until starting the next lap. Don't worry about the train tracks on the map, all these tracks go over the roads so no chance of trains or having to slow down for the tracks.

The run looks mostly flat, as it avoids the hills going up to USC. It looks like it might include the overroad bridges going to the Strom but that might just be the way the map was drawn. Then we go down over the band practice fields behind the Blatt towards Bates Towers. It should be interesting since these are all high volume student crossings unless USC is on Spring Break.

Ah, so they have the map up now.  Awesome.  It looks like they made the bike course as flat as possible given the area.  Running on the sidewalks could get a little dicey in places.

Swim start times are up. Looks like they are going to be using both ends of the pool, since pairs of people are starting together.

Man, thats a bummer.  I noticed the little disclaimer at the top too that says, "Swim time will NOT be changed for any reason."  That sucks.  I might also add that a friend of mine (who isn't slow but isn't fast...) is seeded 9th overall in the open division.  Either she messed up, setup events messed up, or she got really really good since last time!

ETA:  I'm # 129.

I called setup events and I think they felt pretty bad for me, they told me to ask the check in people if I can be placed after the opens or after the first 1 minute break age group break since based on my time I would not hold people up behind me (but I am not holding my breath for this). Apparently they say I entered 70:09 which I think was a computer malfunction of some sort because that typo doesn't even make sense. Interestingly, the guy in front of me was 8th fastest in Parris Island swim (so there may be more than just myself with messed up swim entries).

I feel like if I am still forced to be in the back, it won't be all bad because I will be able to weave around people pretty quickly like a fast car weaving through traffic on the highway. Which is better than being near the front and having someone in front of you who is only a little slower, really doesn't want to let you by, and you have to really tire yourself out trying to pass quickly before being slammed by oncoming traffic (swimmers).

Either way it should be a great race! Good luck everyone

I don't get it.  The pool will (according to the map) be set up long course, with ten lanes total, so you'll swim all ten lanes (map shows no up and back per lane, but up one lane, back the other).  So does each pair just start in the same lane at the same time?  Won't this increase the likelihood of collisions at the walls?  (I experienced two near misses at PI, and I'm new to swimming, so I'm a little gun-shy now...)  Maybe that's normal?  I guess I'll find out tomorrow.  Regardless, I WILL swim faster this time!

Good luck everyone.

Anyone have the exact distance on the run? It couldn't have been the full 3.1 miles.

I mapped it on mapmyrun.com and it came to a few ticks under 3 miles.  I think that's closer to the truth.  On the other hand, that's my first 5K run that included hoofing it up stairs...

ETA:  Bike course was around 10 miles.  maymyride.com said 10 on the nose; Garmin said a bit longer.

Ha, thats right!!  I have no idea what she was thinking.  And now she has to race the open division the rest of the year because setup events won't let you change divisions mid-season.

I had a great race though, although I thought the run course was a tad short.  18:24!! Riiiight.  My garmin clocked the bike at 9.77 miles.

Run course was definitely short.   I think it was maybe 2.9.  I've heard all sorts of reports about the bike course, from yours at the low end, to my 'rack-mate' who's Garmin clocked 10.66.  My Garmin clocked about 10.5.  Mapmyride.com says 10.  So much for technology...
