I swam in it that morning and it was really cold. I had a full wetsuit on too. Did the sprint course on my MTB which was fun and challenging. This is my first tri so we'll see how it goes. I met Andy and Milton while was out and they offered good advice and wisdom...I am looking into getting clipless for my MTB. Road/Tri bike most likely to follow.

Guess I need a signature since you all have one. Until I do... "Fighting for peace is like for virginity"....some smelly hippy.

Anyone up for swimming Sunday afternoon at Bartlett? I would love to carpool if possible - I live near downtown Phoenix.

Bib check-in time....  I'm 429

Heard the water is cold......100 in for the OLY and 150 for the sprint

I see Tr-Family Racing is still using an 9-yr old kid and his ClipArt collection to design their shirts (Not that I do an event for the shirt, but come on....is that a Diver on the shirt? )

Yeah, their shirts are horrible. They really need to get a different graphic designer.

I am ready to go.

I biked the route this morning.  I must say the 1000 foot climb at the start makes it a little interesting.  The roads are a little rough coming down them but otherwise it's a beautiful area.  I hope everyone has a great race tomorrow and good luck.

Swam this morning. The water wasn't as cold as I thought it would be. That bike course scares the he11 out me though.

Some people go the extra mile...heck I go the extra 4 to 5 miles. Oh Yeah I missed the sprint turnaround as it was not marked. I am newbie should I know that a cop sitting in his car with 2 cones next to each and no signs means turn around. However they did have a sign for the oly turn around on horseshoe dam rd. That's where I realized I was putting in some extra miles. It's a bummer cause I was doing well. I just kept telling myself not be upset you're doing good. On my way back they had a sign and people there...lame! I am proud as I never stopped swimming, pedaling or running.

 Here's my results:

400m swim 9th 9:41

14-15 mile bike with transitions 1:35:29 (on a MTB)

2.2 mile Run 26:14

Probably could have placed if not for the turn around crap. Oh well it was my first

Had a great time hanging out with Milton and Ryan.

Great Job Everyone!

Man that was the hardest race ever. For my first olympic tri, that was just brutal. The swim was great and I was actually most worried about that. The bike was hard, I think I was in my easiest gear on my bike for half the race. Then my max speed was 42.4 mph coming down the hills.

The run, oh the run, that was just mean. You ran straight up this hill for the first mile and then it was gradually down hill for the next 2 miles to the turn around. So you knew it was going to hurt coming back up the hill. Mile 4 and 5 were just painful. I had to walk a few times just for a few steps. There was no one to chase in front of me and no one behind me on the run so I didn't try to kill myself.

I was happy when I saw that I got 1st in my age group and 14th overal. I look forward to doing an olympic distance on a flat course.

It was great to meet some BTers, I met aztipros (matt) and saw Milton after the race. Saw Chad out on the bike course. He looked like he was working hard on the bike so I told him to shift to an easier gear, but he already was to his easiest, doh!

When you said that I knew I should have ridden the road bike.

Chad - If it makes you feel any better, I do believe QR's come with a normal size crankset (53X39) not a compact (50X34) so you were probably hurting for low gear choices out there.

Just makes you more manly I say! :p

But yeah you might wanna bust out the road bike next time monster hills are in the forecast! Tri bikes are for crankin big gears!
