Subject: MTV confession

I remember when MTV actually played music videos, but I must confess, I really do enjoy some of the shows:  True Life, Made, & My Super Sweet 16.  I was also a fan of 2-A-Days when that was on a few years ago.

Anyone else have some MTV confessions????

I catch their True Life episodes if the topic is interesting. Caught the one where they covered three Iraq War vets and how they were dealing with PTSD.

Real World shot here in Philly a few years back. They used one of my pieces as set decor in the "green room" It's the one over the two beds.

Funny thing is that this piece is one of a still not yet completed series of images about the Stations of the Cross. This one is titled "Simon, Transitions".

I really had no idea what the show was about when I agreed to the deal. Then I saw the show. Oh well.

MTV is no longer MTV.  Should be renamed RTV (for reality) because that is the only crap that is on there.

I not only remember when MTV played music, I remember the first year it came on. Cracked me up the other day hearing Nina Blackwood on one of the Sirius radio station.

120 Minutes on Sunday nights was awesome.

I remember Remote Control. Great show. Classic MTV of the mid-80's to take the tired game show format and mock it while using it at the same time. The host was not Jimmy Kimmel but Ken Ober with Colin Quinn as his sidekick. The wonderful Kari Wuhrer was my favorite host/vixen. I read later that Ober and Quinn would expose themselves while the show was taping to try and get a reaction out of Wuhrer.

I also read that Ober and Quinn asked for more money and got fired, or something like that. The supposedly counter-culture MTV is very much about making money, which is probably why they pioneered the reality show.

I recall when emptyTV came out, it had some great videos.  But in the past 20 years I have watched no emptyTV.  I am sure they still have a few videos that are cool, but I have no desire to watch "contrived TV" since it sure as heck AINT reality TV.

I was on The MTV Half Hour Comedy Hour. They rolled the credits over my face. I got drunken "Dude I just saw you on MTV!" calls at 2am for a couple years.

'member the girl on the very first commercial that whizzed past the screen on roller skates?

I sold her the skates from my family's sporting good shop on Broadway in NYC. They told me it was for a commercial for this new all music television channel....

I laughed thinking, "right! That'll work!"
