Swim
Comments: The first two hundred yards were cold and I couldn't get any air. No panic attack, but I did ask myself what the hell I was doing out there. I've got some bruises from other people. By the time I found my groove it was time to get out of the water. It was my own personal best time. Too bad there were only about eight people behind me by the time I got out of the water. Some people in the last wave caught me, too. (And scratched me.) Keep in mind there were only like three women in my Athena Group. So when I'm ranked first-- well... not a huge competition. What would you do differently?: I need to swim more. I'm just finally getting the hang of it really. Transition 1
Comments: Okay- I justswam my best swim ever, and in my very first race. I was busy sucking oxygen in transition. I wish I had stuck my gloves on before jumping on bike. My hands were wet- the gloves were hard to get on. What would you do differently?: I think I might forgo socks in the next race. They were a pain in the ass, and covered in grass and dirt by the time I tried to get them on. Bike
Comments: I thought I was doing pretty good on the bike. I'm definitely no superstar. five people passed me and I passed two people. I didn't see very many other people the whole time I rode. I am glad I've been going to a spin class. I could see the payoff in some of the things I did. What would you do differently?: Get the gloves on first. Or don't wear them. No socks. Transition 2
Comments: I was just pondering how I was going to run with my hip already in agony. I have to go to the doctor, man. What would you do differently?: No socks. Rack bike quicker. Run
Comments: This was about channeling Lance Armstrong--- this was not to be enjoyed. This was about greeting pain like an old friend. It was all I could do to run on this hip. What would you do differently?: I probably should have held off on this- but I'd already registered. I tried to keep up with these two Clydesdales..wish I had been able to keep doing it. Post race
Warm down: Got some water. Talked to the lady next to me a while. Shook the grass out of everything and started packing up. Put everything away in the car and walked back over to hear the awards. What limited your ability to perform faster: Bad piriformis, iliacus, and psoas. The run is profoundly impacted by that. Event comments: I totally enjoyed my first Triathlon. Tradition is a nice place to hold one. I will go next year. Last updated: 2008-12-25 12:00 AM

I got up, gear already packed the night before...made an egg white omelette and a cup of Guatamalan Mild Starbucks coffee with cream and sugar. Then I dashed out the door for the fifteen minute drive over to Tradition, and was there at 6:15. Signed in, got painted, picked up my chip and went and set up my gear in the pitch black. Pumped my front tire up a bit. Chatted with people.
Did some stretches. Did some jumps. Stuck my feet in the water. Next time I plan to swim a little bit.
