ShawnFromNorfolk - 2009-09-24 2:47 PM As of today it's looking like 57 degrees race morning according to weather.com brrrrr. At least the water will feel warm! Heading up tomorrow morning, stayin at the Holiday Inn Express in Cambridge, anyone else there? Can't wait!

Looks like arm warmers on the bike!  A buddy and I are heading up tomorrow afternoon from Richmond and we are staying at the HI Express too. I am also doing IMFL!

A question for experienced long course athletes:

What do you do for starting water bottles on the bike?  If they are doing handoffs I am assuming that you will not get the ones back that you start with.  Do you just use 'throw away' bottles?  I usually race with the polar bottles, but dont want to lose them.

Thanks!

I have some sweet Camelback bottles and I plan on keeping them!

I don't really plan on using the aid station bottles BUT I plan on grabbing one anyway and sticking it in my jersey pocket just in case, then can just use that one to exchange if necessary.

At the swim start jockstrapping for Dexter. Weather looks good. A bit breezy but clear skies, 57 degrees F. We need to order some BT sweat shirts.

Guess Not lol ... Congrats to everyone on a great race today! How about that swim! The back leg was kinda rough and tough to sight with the sun. Really enjoyed some nice tailwind on the bike but equaled out with some head/cross wind as well. I guess as I type this some people are still out running, only Aqua Velo for me! Looking forward to reading some race reports~!

The swim was rough for me (didn't wear contacts so I couldn't sight). But a solid race otherwise (my 1st iron distance)! Hands down, a lot of it was due to organization of the race. CTA lived up to the hype.

Congrats to the finishers (surviving those winds in & of itself is an accomplishment).

I am also competing in the Cheasapeake on 9/25 and first time iron man.  completed two olympic (Harriman and NYC) and one  1/2 marathon (westchester) last year.  all the excitement/buzz will be in the hyatt so that's what i'm doing.  figured i would go straight from olympic to iron, skipping the half.

that's one way to do it. as long as you get the training and sort out your nutrtiion in this year you'll be fine (at least i hope so I'm an iron virgin as well and that's what I keep telling myself)

This is the 2009 thread..you may want to start a new 2010 thread.

I'm considering doing this as aquavelo to prep for IMFL.
